Ranking the top WRs in 2007 (1 Viewer)

Keith R

The Don
Based on several factors, I fully expect to start the WR run in my TD heavy league. However, I'm having trouble distinguishing the very top WR in this type of format. The (not so) short list includes...

Harrison/Wayne - Probably the safest of the top picks, but is this the year Wayne passes Harrison or not? Or will they balance each other too much, knocking them both out of the top 3? And will the weakening of the O-line affect them?

C Johnson/Housh - See above, minus the O-line but plus the Henry suspension. Will that be a benefit (more TDs to go around) or a hinderance (easier to defend)?

Holt - Not seen as a sexy pick, but the clear #1 WR on a passing team. However, is SJax changing the direction of the offense?

S Smith - Greatly talented, but suffered from injury last year. Plus, faith in Delhomme is questionable. Will that affect his psyche, lowering Smith's TDs? Also, how would Smith do with Carr as QB?

TO - Outstanding last year, similar to his 1st year in Philly. Will this year be like his 2nd in Philly also? Will age start to catch up to him? Or is he the real TD king in fool's clothing?

That's quite a number of contenders for the top spot. If I had to rank them right now for TDs, it would be;

Smith

TO

Harrison

Holt

Johnson

Wayne

Housh

Let me know if you argee or if you think I'm off base. Also, don't try to talk me out of being the first (or second) to take a WR - that's not the point of this post.

TIA

This may not be how everyone else has these guys ranked but I think I would go...

1- Holt (Star #1WR on a passing team, easy schedule with easy playoff weeks - the 70% knee thing doesn't worry me a bit. These guys just make up numbers, next week he would say 85 then finally 100 by week 1)

2-Harrison - Should be able to do it another year. In a draft I take Harrison, in an auction i would take Harrison or Wayne, whichever is cheaper.

3- Fitz is another WR with an easy schedule this year.

4 - Steve Smith - Delhomme's confidence does worry me a bit this year. If he starts out hot Steve Smith will be money.

5- Reggie Wayne

6 & 7 Chad Johnson/TJ Housh - TJ is the redzone WR and Chad gets the deep balls, take your pick.

8-T.O. - I think the his body is starting to breakdown on him. If you think he will be healthy and play all 16 games, he should be taken #1WR. His TD/rec % is too good to ignore. I just think he won't make it through 16 games this season.

1 Terrell Owens - A full off-season to build chemistry with Romo and time for Romo to adjust to the lifestyle will be good for Owens. Romo's #1 target, despite leading the league in drops, T.O. will end up with the most TDs IMO.

2 Torry Holt - He says his knee is 70% but it's still early. Clear cut #1 on the team with very little competition from other WRs on the team. Expecting a huge year.

3 Chad Johnson - Chad's stashed away money this year like he did in 05 for fines. He says he can't play the same without being himself. If the 05 Chad is back, watch out. With Henry gone, that means more opportunities for Ocho Cinco.

4 Reggie Wayne - I think this is the year Wayne surpasses Harrison. Harrison is a year older and Wayne is in his prime. I think alot of it has to do with who Manning targets more but my gut is telling me this is the year the roles reverse.

5 Steve Smith - I'm expecting Delhomme to get back to 05 levels and Smith to stay healthy this year. This is probably my least confident pick at this point.

6 Marvin Harrison - Despite expecting Wayne to overtake Harrison this year, I still expect Harrison to put up very good numbers like usual. He's gonna be 35 this fall and this is the year I think he drops a little. But who knows, I was wrong about Rod Smith dropping off for 2 straight years.

7 Larry Fitzgerald - I have a feeling Leinart is going to explode this year and Fitzgerald is going to reep all of the benefits IMO. Despite being injured last year, Fitz nearly had 1000 yards and 6 TDs with a rookie QB.

8 Roy Williams - Mike Williams is gone. Calvin Johnson is in. Rookie WR's don't usually do well their first couple of years but many are expecting Johnson to. If that's true, that could actually help Roy take the coverage off him. With Tatum and KJ in the backfield, the offense should actually improve this year, opening up more possibilities in the pass game.

9 Javon Walker - A year after his injury Walker threw up nearly 1100 yards and 8 TDs. Cutler did well in limited time last year. I'd expect him to lean on Walker as much as he can.

10 Lee Evans - Everybody hates on JP Losman. What you don't realize is Losman was #11 in QB rating and #9 in completion percentage. Why I think Evans will be #11 (or even higher)? They have another year with Fairchild's offense, a RB who can catch, an upgraded offensive line, a defense that lost alot of players and a very tough schedule. Expect them to be playing behind alot and Losman hitting Evans deep.

11 Marques Colston - Colston came out of nowhere the first half of the season and lit the league on fire. He might have been 2nd round talent, or he may be a product of Brees loving big targets. Either way Brees is there and Colston is healthy. I don't expect this offense to slow down and Colston should be a stud again.

12 T.J. Houshmandzadeh - TJ stepped up his receptions and yardage last year as well as TDs. With Henry out I'm tempted to bump up his numbers... but it was a career year so I'm remaining a bit skeptical.

I wouldn't be surprised if R Moss crept into the picture. Other than maybe Watson, he's the only legit redzone threat on the Pats.

After tonight's game, Cedrick Wilson, showed the world that he is worthy of the #1 slot ahead of Owens and Chad Johnson.

This, I like.

Dark Horse- Reggie Brown.

Reggie Brown had 46 catches and 3 rushes last season and scored 9 touchdowns. I don't know if there's an official stat for it but he scored 1 TD for every 5.4 times he touched the ball. In comparison Terrell Owens scored 1 TD for every 6.5 he touched the ball and Marvin Harrison scored 1 TD for ever 7.9 times he touched the ball.

Now before everyone gets their panties in a bunch saying that I think Reggie Brown is better than Harrison or TO I can assure you that's not the case. All's i'm saying is that the rate at which he scores touchdowns not to mention averaging nearly 18 yards a catch leads me to believe that he's a playmaker. If McNabb's healthy I think it's gonna be hard for Brown to not reach double digit touchdowns in 07.

I really think you have to put Moss back up into this list again too. He has the best QB he has ever played with, he (according to all reports) is working harder than he has in the last few years, and he has Stallworth and Welker to keep the double teams to a minimum. Top 10 for him is extremely likely, top 5 is not out of the question, and he has a shot as the top FF WR this year (same as about 8 other guys).

just my $.02

If McNabb was assured to be healthy I'd feel a lot better about him. But I too seem drawn to drafting him. I'm in a non-PPR draft right now and am really leaning toward him as my WR3 to go with Steve Smith and T.J. Housh.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. It seems as though people agree with me about TO being at the top of the list, but not about Steve Smith, seeing him as more in the 5-7 range. Lots to chew on...
