Rashard Mendenhall (1 Viewer)

Mendy owner here. I am reading his achilles is worse than expected. He had a nice game vs Philly and then out since the Tennessee game. Hunter just went on waivers and I'm going to claim him for Mendenhall. I'm not in love with the rest of the Pitt schedule either for a hurt running back.

It's just frustrating because when the guy is healthy he can put up points. I just don't think he's good for a few more weeks. Would like to hear others on it.

If only we had a search function...

Not much to discuss since he didn't practice yesterday. Sunday seems unlikely - probably inactive or light work if he does suit up.

He looked great in his debut. If he gets healthy again, he could be a great stash to have around for the late season run and playoffs.

Sorry about that. Feel free to merge.

Neither of those articles says Mendenhall's injury is "worse than expected." Why did you post that in two separate threads if its not based on anything?

I was thinking the same thing. FWIW, I was watching NFL Network earlier today, and they had an injury specialist on (mainly to discuss MJD's foot injury) and he did mention that the injury Mendenhall is suffering (Achilles tendonitis) will not simply go away within a week, and will potentially re-occur if he comes back within the next couple of weeks. Not sure what to take away from that. It's also worth mentioning, this is the same injury that lingered on with Roy Helu and had a part in him being placed on IR earlier this season.

Helu was placed on IR because of a turf toe injury. He had achilles tendonitis in both achilles' tendons in the preseason. He played in the final pre-season game and played very well, and played in the week 1 game, when he first suffered the toe injury. He aggravated in in week 3, and was subsequently put on IR. It did take him several weeks to get over the achilles' injuries, but that doesn't mean much, with regards to Mendenhall's situation. Mendenhall's achilles could be less severe, or it could be much more severe. We don't know, so trying to guess how long Mendenhall might be out based off how long Helu sat would be pointless.

You must own Mendenhall or something. The would explain why you're so defensive. I simply said Helu had the same injury and it lingered. Am I wrong about that? Based on his Rotoworld profile, I figured he was placed on IR due to both (the tendonitis and turf toe), since neither doesn't seem serious enough to end his season two weeks in. I assumed the Redskins didn't find him useful this season due to all his injuries. But either way, the Achilles injury lingered for him, so it is POSSIBLE it could linger for Mendenhall.

I'm not sure how what I posted was "defensive."
I simply said Helu had the same injury and it lingered. Am I wrong about that?
No, what you posted was:
this is the same injury that lingered on with Roy Helu and had a part in him being placed on IR earlier this season.
And you were wrong about that. Beanie Wells is currently on the IR(designated to return) right now, due to a toe injury, but he had a hammy injury in TC. Would it be accurate to say his hammy "had a part in him being placed on IR?" No, it wouldn't; just like it isn't accurate to say that Helu's achilles' issues were part of the reason he was placed on IR.
Based on his Rotoworld profile, I figured he was placed on IR due to both (the tendonitis and turf toe), since neither doesn't seem serious enough to end his season two weeks in. This is the problem. You didn't actually look up the info, you just "figured;" yet you posted the information as if it were a fact, just as the OP said he was "reading his [Mendenhall's] achilles is worse than expected." There's little validity to either statement, so why post them, as if they were fact?

Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall will not play this weekend, but is on schedule to return in Week 9. Could be another big week for Dwyer

Not sure if this goes in the Dwyer thread or this thread, feel free to move this post whereever.

Thought this was interesting...

It's unknown whether Rashard Mendenhall will play Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs, but he will remain the Steelers' starting running back when he's recovered from an Achilles injury, running backs coach Kirby Wilson told The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Wednesday."Rashard has always been our lead dog and our top runner," Wilson told the newspaper.[snip]"Rashard is the complete package -- power, speed, explosiveness," Wilson said. "He is the guy who can take a 10-yard run and make people miss and get 20 more. We think Jonathan has things that he is great at. Isaac has some things that he is great at. But Rashard is the complete package. Rashard has proved that he can do it over the long haul."

Not surprising - pretty consistent with what Dwyer and Redman have been saying themselves.Question is how much of Mendy's effectiveness has been compromised near-term after his ACL injury and now an Achilles.

Gives more time for his knee to rest, maybe it's a blessing in disguise.
