Rasmussen Trump Approval Index (1 Viewer)

Trump / Obama

Date 24-Aug-18 / 24-Aug-10

Approval Index -12 / -18

Strongly Approve 32% / 25%

Strongly Disapprove 44% / 43%

Total Approve 46% / 45%

Total Disapprove 53% / 54%

Figured it would be interesting to keep a tracker.

According to CNN and FBG Trump is the worst president, and likely worst person, in the history of the world. America apparently disagrees.

Obama had a negative approval rating his entire presidency after the first 6 months (much of the time double what Trump's current -12 approval rating is), yet still was able to win re-election in 2012 when he was at -8. eta:  his approval rating finally went back to positive on the day Trump won the election. The fact that the numbers are even close enough that alternative “better” analysis is required is embarrassing in and of itself.
This.

The fact that the narcissistic, petty, moron, who can't even put aside personal differences upon the death of a historic figure, shows just how much trouble our country is in.  40% of the country simply wants to hang onto 1950's America as long as they can, so much so they'll support the inept conman currently staining the WH no matter what.

Books will be written about this time.  Not sure how we move forward from here.

We will get better by attrition of the Trump supporters from natural causes.

Cherry-picking a single poll from Rasmussen tells you all you need to know about the OP's intent here.

Having said, the end of the 2nd year is often a low point for a President and a lot of them have been almost (but not quite) as bad off as Trump.  The difference is that they weren't there for every day of the previous 18 months, and had some hope of improving after the midterms gave them a political foil to work against.

To be fair, five thirty eight has Trump’s approval and disapproval ratings very close to Obama’s at this stage. Very close to Reagan’s too.

This is quite amazing to me if I am being honest.  At this stage of Obama's presidency we were battling to avoid a recession (if not full on depression).  Compare that to an economy that Trump is flopping around in and it's quite remarkable that he's doing so poorly.  Perhaps this is evidence that people ARE paying attention to something other than their pocket books and bank accounts?

I think you're looking at the wrong election - Obama got smoked in the 2010 midterms.

One president was in the middle of the greatest economic recession since the 1930s.

The other president is at the end of the greatest economic recovery since the 1930s.

There really isn't an excuse for a President in a "booming economy" to have numbers similar to that of a President facing a major recession/depression.  If you can't generate better numbers in perfect conditions, then maybe you're doing it wrong?

Got any more excuses?
Obama, Gallup poll, August 25-29, 2010: 43% approval

Trump, Gallup poll, August 27, 2018: 41% approval

WOMP WOMP!

We've got the most booming economy in the history of this country and the best Trump can muster is 41% approval. SAD!

It was sarcasm. The truth is that the current economy pales in comparison to the explosions in the 1920s and 1950s. Virtually every scientific data point will show this to be the case, and really the only person in the world who truly believes that the current economy is superior to those eras is the guy occupying the White House.

But the fact is that you cannot have it both ways. If you want to believe what Trump says (i.e., that the economy is the best its ever been), then you must also acknowledge that the polls cannot be fairly compared.

But if you agree that Trump is a liar and that the economy isn't that great, then yeah, go ahead and compare the polls.

He’ll manage to have it both ways. :moneybag:

Wait, what?  :o  There was already an existing thread on this? How did TripItUp miss that? Does he know how the search function works?
