12 team Rotisserie. Had the draft last night. I think I messed up because I didn't know we had the option of not keeping players so I kept three (on the advice of you guys) and forfeited the first 3 rounds of picks (although I picked 8th so I think it worked out). Standard 5 by 5 scoring with a limit of 160 starts. Please critique my team and give me suggestions for improving it. I really don't know what position holds value so I drafted straight off the dollar values listed for my scoring at the LastPlayerPicked site.

C - Mauer (keeper)

1B - Adrian Gonzo (keeper)

2B - Howie Kendrick

SS - Jose Reyes/Marco Scutaro

3B - Mark DeRosa

OF - Ryan Ludwick

OF - Magglio Ordonez

OF - Manny Ramirez

UT - Vlad Guerrero

UT - Adam LaRoche

Bench - Nick Johnson, Reyes/Scutaro

SP - Sabathia (keeper)

SP - Carpenter

SP - Johan Santana

SP - James Shields

SP - Heroki Kuroda

RP - Heath Bell

RP - Billy Wagner

RP - Taka Saito

Bench - Ted Lilly, Randy Wolf

TIA.

Not a fan.

Kendrick, DeRosa, Ludwick, and Vlad are all replacement level or below in a league like this and Maggs and LaRoche (although he's under valued) aren't much better.

Instead of handcuffing Wagner I think you should speculate on saves instead, you really need at least 3 closers.

You went overkill on pitching, I would use CC to try and fix the problems on offense. Johan is under valued and Carp is a good compliment to him. Solid depth behind them too. You really only need 2 horses and a quality stable behind them to compete, 3 is always good but not at the expense of your offense.

You should probably consider moving Mauer too, he's a great player to have but given all the other holes your squad would be better off upgrading elsewhere and hoping to get by at catcher.

In the end, you need at least a good OF to compete, they produce the most numbers. This is not a good OF and you aren't strong enough at the other most important position (3B) either.

It isn't bad squad. Mac is off his nut telling you to trade Mauer. You can fill in the gaps if you want to call them that in OF and UT from the waiver wire. The wire should be full of serviceable players in a 12 team mixed league. Your weakest category is SB, only Reyes is a contributor, that said you should be able to find cheap steals via Rajai Davis, Juli Borbon, Michael Brantley available on the wire. Once Reyes is healthy Scutaro is expendable immediatley.

Your pitching is dominant. And there will be the oppurtunity to grab another closer off the wire, which Mac is correct you will need. Guaranteed there are closers left on the wire not to mention committee type players. Read C. Perez, J. Rauch, M. Guerrier, K. Gregg,

I will agree with Mac on Vlad and Kendrick. You can probably find better replacements out there, although my gut tells me Vlad has a big first half this season so I would ride him early.

Do you think Mauer's repeating 09? I don't. He's a great player, but he's a top 40 bat, not the top 10 bat he's being valued like.

Thanks for the input so far. What specific players do you guys think I should be targeting and for whom? Sounds like I can expend an ace. I also play in a Twins Homer league so Mauer may be worth quite a bit to someone.

G Sizemore, R Zimmerman, D Wright, and Longoria immediately come to mind for Mauer.Maybe Votto, Cano, Granderson, and BJ Upton for CC?

Twins are better then they were last year offensively and I will drop a "you heard it here first", the new ballpark will be a significant offensive improvement. I think Mauer can come close to duplicating his numbers, most likely with more HR/RBI. His BA may fall off .010 points but he will still hold 99% of his value.

The only move I like is potentially unloading Sabathia for Upton, because you are weak in SB. I think you can find those somewhere else, but Upton is a buy low candidate right now and he won't be come mid-May.

The deals for Mauer are great for the other owner, no you.

What is sick is that I kept Sabathia over Upton  . I shoulda just drafted BJ over Carp.

Based on what I'm seeing early on in my drafts, I'm thinking you should get Upton plus for CC.ETA: Personally, I'd target 2nd round value guys if not first round value guys for CC. He's been going in that range in most of my drafts so far...

I'm a Mets fan so I'm thinking of offering CC for David Wright. Good move?
Offer is light on your end, so if they accept, yes it is
That trade was rejected and sounds like the owner isn't interested in dishing Wright. There's another owner who is itching to trade. He's got Michael Bourn and Chone Figgins that would be helpful in the steals department. Should I make a play for them? If so, what would be a good offer?

Needing steals help and solidfying a good 3B option (currently have Uribe and DeRosa), I just offered Howie Kendrick and Ryan Ludwick for Nick Markakis and Chone Figgins. I figure I can move Uribe to 2B and take advantage of Ludwick's hot streak. Good move?

not sure if he would accept that but its good for you if he does.

I have been offered closer Ryan Franklin for Paul Konerko. Currently, I'm dead last in saves as Bell and Wagner haven't had many chances. Konerko is a big reason why I'm high up in homers and RBIs. I have Adam LaRoche, ARI on my bench to replace Konerko as well as AGonz in the flex spot.

Should I make this trade to improve in saves?

Yes.LaRoche should start heating up in the next few weeks, he's always a slow starter. I don't have any data to back this up but I've begun to notice in recent years that old(er) guys have a tendency to start off well and fade as the grind of a season takes its toll on their older body. Trust Konerko's historical data, you aren't missing much. What you lose between now and when LaRoche heats up will be more than made up for with the uptick in saves.

Just traded Adam LaRoche for Johnny Damon. This leaves me with only AGonz at 1B but strengthens my OF and UT IMO. Good move?

Jesus.

ZoW, whatever your instincts are on trade, go the other way. I think I disagree with pretty much trade offer you've proposed here.

What does your team look like now?
