Rate my draft and offer some help (1 Viewer)

A buddy of mine needed one more owner for a free baseball league, so I gave it a shot. Unfortunately, the draft was at 8:30 this morning and being a teacher, there was no way I could do it. The computer drafted my team and now I think I have some moves to make. As I said, I am a newbie when it comes to baseball and need all the help and advice you guys can offer. I am a big baseball fan, but I don't know how the game translates to fantasy.

This is a head to head league with 5*5 scoring.

Anyway, here is my team-

What moves do I need to make? Anyone I should look to trade? Anyone to drop? Are there some sleepers that might be available?

What do you start, so we'll know who is expendable... the team looks very solid and I'm sure there are going to be some very good players on the bench you could package in a trade.

Off the top of my head 1 more starting pitcher and a power bat would be my first thoughts, but we'll see when u post starting requirements.

Thanks for the initial thoughts. Here is our starting lineup:Catcher 1 First Base 1 Second Base 1Third Base 1Shortstop 1 Middle Infielder (2B/SS) 1Corner Infielder (1B/3B) 1 Outfield 5 Utility (UTIL) 1 Pitcher (P) 9 Also, this is a 10 team league.

Blake and Pierzinski are easily expendable in a 10-team league. I'd look to add an OF and an arm probably, if not two arms.

You also could shop around VMart or Mauer to the team with the weakest catcher, see what you can get.

In all likelihood, you wouldn't get much, if anything, in return for those 2 in a ten team league. It's probably not worth the effort to attempt to trade.

This is correct. Just drop them. Without seeing the free agents it's difficult to say exactly who to target on the wire.

i agree on dumping them. with ten teams the wire will be relatively deep. that means it will pay to keep an eye on the wire and improve your ream over the course of the season as players stall and break out. is this is an espn league?

(someone in our football league who couldn't make the draft ended up with something like 8 rbs in the first 12 rounds ).this probably doesn't help because you're playing h2h. but i'll mention in case there is a similar twist in h2h rules. espn has no batter limits in roto, which increases the value of multiposition players and having hitters on the bench.

Yeah, for better or worse, most of the teams had to auto draft (7 of 10), so I am sure there are some other odd looking rosters.So, drop Pierzynski and Blake and add ??

How many DL spots are you allowed?

I guess if there is at least 1, you should grab BJ Ryan now. As soon as he hits the DL, you'll get another move to add someone, probably the best bat out there.

As for the other move, it's a toss up. I'll let some others chime in. I would possibly add Percival, Gordon or Sherrill as I'm not sold on Lidge being healthy right away.

Also, most of the pitchers listed were RP....if you filter them out there might be another SP or two worth grabbing.

I'd scoop up Harden and RJ. They're both injury prone but should put up good numbers when they play.

You obviously need to unload either Martinez or Mauer...you don't need two catchers/ I would look to trade one of them for a power hitting outfielder. You also need to improve second base.

It's not a bad deal for you.If it was me, I'd first try to sell him on Mauer+Ellsbury or Mauer+Damon for Markakis.

Yes. And he's right, he might not go on the DL now. He's debuting Saturday, so keep an eye on him the next few weeks.
