NL only 5x5 with 10 teams

I need a closer and a catcher

I give:

Jordan Schaefer, ATL OF

Ubaldo Jiminez, COL SP

I get:

Cordero, CIN RP

Molina, SF C

Am I giving too much, too little?

I think it is a good trade if those are your needs. I also would never count on a colarado SPs and would rather have him gone.

Cordero is the best player in the deal. Molina is a top 5-6 C in NL only leagues.

In a 10 team its not super lopsided as Molina will probably be your backup catcher anyways but you get a decent closer and are trading bench players with upside to do so.

If you need a closer then good trade

It's a NL only league

Really hard to evaluate the trade without knowing if its roto or h2h. In a 10 team NL only league, there's less than 2 closers to go around between the teams. So depending on the distribution and the type of league, Cordero could either be close to worthless or gold. Molina is a solid C in an NL only league and his value depends on whether you're playing 2 Cs. In a 1 catcher league, his value isn't that great unless you expect him to play 145 games again.

On the flip side, Jimenez had a very good second half, but has 1 good and one bad start so far. He should be somewhat erratic this year, so I think he has less value in a H2H league. Schafer is a legit 12/20 threat, but he'll have a hard time cracking the top of the lineup to rack up the runs and drive up his value. Again, depending on the league and your team, those steals could be gold.

Our league is a roto league 5x5 NL only with mostly rookie GMs.

Molina is his 2nd of 3 catchers (Martin LAD and Baker FLA are his others). His other closer is Hoffman.

Carlos Ruiz (injured backup in PHI) is my catcher and I don't have a closer. I'd be replacing Schafer with Fred Lewis as my 5th OF.

His outfield is a mess: Austin Kearns WAS, Scott Hairston SD and Joe Thurston STL are his 3rd, 4th and 5th OF.

One catcher league or 2? If its a one catcher league and the benches are shallow, you can generally get by with just picking up the hot hand from the waiver wire. Though either way you did quite well as Lewis is the better bet for this year and should give you as many steals as Schafer (which likely will be the most important category for each this year). Cordero is about as secure as a closer can be in the NL and should net you atleast 4 points over the course of the year - more if you're able to find another closer over the course of the season. He's went from a likely top 3 or better finish in saves to potentially the bottom of the league depending on how well Hoffman's health holds up. The increase in steals may or may not matter for him and he might be gaining 8 or so HR over the course of the season over Thurston - you can generally find some platoon players available that can contribute atleast that much power. As for C, he probably gives up a handful of HR, gains some runs and loses about as many RBI. Unless he really needs speed, I see this trade actually hurting your trade partner.

Jimenez is the best player in that deal long term. Cordero scares me, but he's got the gig in Cincy with Weathers not being an option. I love Molina in an NL only league. Schafer is just another OF. Pretty fair trade all around - if you need a closer it is a good deal.
