Ravens at Broncos (1 Viewer)

I'm wondering the same thing as urban. Last year the AFC Championship game was the Ravens vs New England, and it came down to the wire. The Ravens vs New England or Houston doesn't sound dull to me.
If New England wins, it will be something like 38-10. Houston would absolutely dominate them too. Baltimore is not a good team. And this is coming from a huge Lewis-Reed-Boldin fan.
The Ravens beat New England in the regular season.
Going in to this weekend the two best teams in the AFC were, without question, the Patriots and the Broncos. Neither the Texans or the Ravens are very good at this point. The Ravens just played their best game of the year in Denver. They aren't good enough to do it two weeks in a row. The Patriots will destroy the Texans. The Texans have faded badly at the end of the season, while the Patriots are starting to peak. The Texans have no chance in that game. I think the Texans lose by 20. Had the Broncos won, the Patriots in Denver would have been a great game. Now the Texans and the Ravens are a cakewalk for the Patriots to the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl should interesting because there are some very good teams in the NFC. The AFC playoffs are basically over as far as I can see. It is too bad. I was looking forward to seeing the Broncos play the Patriots.
I think any team can play well in consecutive weeks in the playoffs. How exactly are the Patriots starting to peak? The last game they played they beat Miami soundly, but the game before that they only beat the Jags by 7 in an ugly game, and the game before that they lost to the 49ers. Thats peaking? I just don't think the Ravens against the Pats or Texans automatically equates to a dull and boring AFC Championship game. It could be boring, but it also could be fun and exciting.

The most crushing playoff loss has to be the one and done after a bye.
Nope - losing the Super Bowl as a favorite is worse.
I see what you're getting at but at least you won some playoff games and went to the SB. I dunno, waiting a week, being favored, playing at home, winning the division, top 2 team in the conference...Any playoff loss sucks donkeys though, obviously.
The bolded makes sense from a logical standpoint if you're not a fan of the team in question. But, if it's your team...For me, Super Bowl 32 was far more disappointing than losing to the Giants twice in recent playoffs, or last nights game.

Manning threw the decisive pick. Another unfortunate playoff loss. That said, John Fox is even worse than Tony Dungy in the playoffs as a HC. Too conservative when it is not warranted or necessary. Denver DBs need to be replaced immediately. Officiating was the worst I've seen in any game including the replacements. Good luck to the Ravens. I like many on that team, just not Lewis. Manning trolls. Does it make you feel better to troll, on the Internet, anonymously no less? You fellas sound like uncle Rico.

For those debating the fumble/tuck rule, Manning weighed in himself: "I thought it was probably a fumble," he said. "Certainly a possession I'd like to have back."My linkHe also audibled to the run play on third down before the punt. "That was an audible," Manning said. "Actually, I called that play, so don't put that on (offensive coordinator) Mike (McCoy). We just didn't do much with it."Bad decisions all around for Denver.

really don't understand how they could review that Boldin "catch" and say that the play stands. The ball CLEARLY was touching the ground and aided in him making the catch.

Manning's never going to come out and blame the refs for anything. Neither that play, nor the PI the resulted in a touchdown for Baltimore were the deciding factor in the game, but they were both missed/incorrect calls.

Or we could all just admit that the tuck rule is stupid, as it takes an actual fumble and calls it something else.

Why/what would he blame the refs for?

The fact that under NFL rules there's no way that play should have been ruled a fumble and even with replay they botched it.

He brought the ball back down, had it on his gut, then lost it. That's how Captain one and done does it.

I don't care enough to argue, but the ball looked to be clearly loose on the way down and was certainly never tucked/controlled. It was a bad call. The Broncos also had several borderline calls go their way, and I don't think any of them ended up being a deciding factor.

I want to see the best teams in both the Championship games and particularly the Super Bowl. There were only five teams I wanted to see in the Super Bowl. They are the Broncos and the Patriots in the AFC, and the Packers, Niners, or Seahawks in the NFC. I didn't think, and still don't think that the Falcons are that good of a team. But these are the teams I want to see play each other. Watching the Ravens play the Texans doesn't interest me all that much. I would have preferred to see the Seahawks agaisnt the NIners. Now I want the Niners and the Patriots in the Super Bowl because I think those are the best teams remaining.

No, that wasn't clear at all. I was rooting for Denver, but my son and I agreed at the time that replay didn't provide indisputable evidence to overturn the call on the field either way. If the refs had called it incomplete, I wouldn't have wanted that overturned either.

When he was turning over in the air facing the ground you could clearly see he didn't have control of the ball and it was touching the ground.

These discussions are why the NFL should just do away with replay; it is a cumbersome, flawed system that just creates more frustration. In response to that frustration the NFL, like any good bloated institiuton looking for a solution, will create more legislation to deal with it. Which will in turn create less clarity and more frustration. It was a fumble and and a catch. Next play.

Getting Manning was a mistake long term for the Broncos. He didn't win it this year, doing no better than Tebow, he is an old QB who is a year older, and in another year they will be rebuilding all over again.

Refs were horrible and we'll never see improvement thanks to ESPN and the union propaganda arm. they've ruined the NFL.
Couldn't agree more. The refs would be the lead on sportscenter if they were "replacements". Using "all star" crews, of guys who haven't work together all year is working horribly for the NFL.
I thought it was pretty good last week. Some of the best reffed games of the year.
I won't speak for the rest of the games, but the officiating in this game was brutal. And normally complaining about the refs is pretty bush league, imo, but there were some very slanted calls that went 1 direction in this one. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rob-kirkpatrick/ravens-broncos_b_2492147.html

The discussion for the refs being awful begins with them allowing Tucker a practice FG during OT periods. If you don't know the rules, you can't be a ref.

yeah, I saw that too. didn't know where to put it. IMO, we were jobbed worse than GB was vs SEA earlier in the year. Fortunately for the ref's, there are a vast many other directions for the blame fingers to be pointing to draw attention away from them.

Those blown calls were irritating, and definitely cost the Broncos big time. but in my head, all I can think is, "Stop a 70-yard pass at the end of the game and it wouldn't have mattered." :wall:

This. And the complete ambiguity of if, allowing Refs to make a critical decision at their whim, argues for how stupid it is.

As a Vikings' fan, there are 3 separate instances that will instantly bring about scowls on the faces of other Vikings' fans if you were to bring them up. Drew Pearson's "hail mary" the deep bomb that Dallas used to beat the Vikings in a game they looked like they had won in 1975. Dennis Green inexplicably taking a knee with an uncoverable wide receiver on his team and a top notch QB with more than enough time to get into field goal range. Finally, Favre making a terrible decision and throwing across his body, leaving Minnesota no more chances to win a tie game.Somehow Denver accomplished all three of these heartbreaking defeats in 1 game. It was incredible and sad to watch at the same time and I can't help but feel for Denver fans.

Completely agree with you guys. The officiating was brutal, but the Broncos had the game won with less than a minute left. :wall:
Broncos fans are still crying a week later?
It's probably going to take Bronco fans a while to get over this loss.

Yep, that's the bottom line. Still can't believe Moore misplayed that-in that situation-so badly.

Hah, I'm a longtime Cowboys fan and I still remember that Drew Pearson Hail Mary pass vividly. I was a kid then and I used to take Cowboy losses VERY hard. I thought that game was over. Couldn't believe they won that one.

when I was in the airport, dome dude saw my broncos hat and came and told me that he was a browns fan. The Moore play will be for us what The Drive and The Fumble were to him. He's right.
