Ravens sign Joey Harrington (1 Viewer)

Falcons released QB Joey Harrington. It's never a good sign when you get beat out by D.J. Shockley. Harrington, 30, could still land somewhere in-season. The CFL is known to have interest.

Ravens signed QB Joey Harrington, formerly of the Falcons.Harrington was better than Chris Simms in Monday's workout, so he got the nod. Simms should start exploring options in Dallas and Chicago. Harrington has little time to get ready for the opener and probably isn't a candidate to start against Cincinnati, but was needed with Troy Smith and Kyle Boller out indefinitely. Look for Boller (shoulder) now to go on injured reserve. Sep. 1 - 5:10 pm et

I know NFL QB's are scarce, but I'm surprised Joey was able to guarantee his '08 contract with a pre-Week 1 signing.

Wow.

Who was available with more experience? Serious question, I can't think of anyone save CPep.Good for Joey, I always liked him. Chicago should be chasing down Simms to get him signed, IMO.

Good to know that Newsome is still trying to show the league that the Ravens can win with one hand tied behind their backs.

Who cares about his experience when his experience is bad? Maybe they couldn't work a deal with him, but Simms sure seems like a much better guy to have than Harrington.

Good news for me as Smith/Flacco are my dynasty back up QB.

Maybe they signed Joey, so he could mentor Flacco. I can hear coach now. "Joe, here is your new Mentor Joey Harrington. Listen to Mr. Harrington, as he knows everything about being a first round pick that is thrusted into the starting role. Listen well and do exactly opposite of what he tells you."

Agreed...QB's with starting experience are not exactly dime-a-dozen. With that being said, the Ravens could have waited a week and gave themselves MUCH MORE flexibility with Harrington's contract. If Harrington received other pre-Week 1 offers, so be it. Culpepper...Simms...the Ravens could have even worked a trade similar to the McCown-to-Panthers deal.

This again proves that BAL is horrible at evaluating QB's. This organization really needs to re-vamp the portion that evaluates, coaches and has anything to do with QB's.

I want to see something more official. ;)
according to profootballtalk.com, Mort and ESPN may have jumped the gun
Despite a report from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that free-agent quarterback Joey Harrington has agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens, a league source tells us that Harrington has not yet signed — and might not.Per the source, Harrington has another visit lined up for Tuesday. We’re not saying that he won’t sign with Baltimore, but as of right now he hasn’t.

ProFootballTalk.com is saying that a report from ESPN's Chris Mortensen claiming the Ravens have signed Joey Harrington might not be correct.

Harrington is set to visit another team Tuesday and has not signed a contract with Baltimore. Sep. 1 - 8:24 pm et
