Rays Fans and Haters of Rays Fans (1 Viewer)

Would Tampa Bay fans wait out a rainstorm and then still be 46,000 strong at 1:45 am, me thinks no
We wouldn't have to wait out a rainstorm, we planned ahead on that. And we were nearly full at 1:35 am just a couple of weeks ago.

It's just irritation with the whole topic. The Bucs have sold out every game since 97. The Lightning draw terrific crowds, the Bulls get 50k a game and then a lot of people here spend lots of money supporting the Gators and Noles. Yet all you here about is the Rays. It's annoying.
I just don't think Floridians like professional baseball too much.
Professional baseball has been in the Tampa Bay area for 100 years.
Are you talking about spring training or minors?
Spring Training.Do you think "Floridians" like hockey?
Who cares about spring training? That has nothing to do with this. And plus, how many of those "fans" are out of towners? I know that many people around my way make the trip to Clearwater for the Phils spring training.
Brighthouse Field has a huge season ticket holder base, as does Legends in Tampa...which is obviously locals. The area is also known for it's incredible youth baseball programs. Bottom line is baseball is something people from Tampa Bay play, follow, and support. You ignored by second question about whether you think "Floridians" like hockey?

No, I didn't.I just don't see how that's relevent. I never said anything about hockey. It doesn't matter to me if people in Florida like hockey or don't.

Dude, now you're talking about youth programs? My point was that it just doesn't seem like people living in Florida care enough to support PROFESSIONAL MLB, unless they're winning, of course.

I realize this has little to do with Tampa, but Florida in general possibly.

How can Jacksonville with a straight face say they had 64,775 at that game yesterday? There were at least a dozen tarped sections just from what was seen on TV and each section that wasn't tarped had a noticeable number of empty seats. 35k at the most. Why aren't they considering moving that team to LA and not one of the SanFran teams?

It's relevant because you'd be crazy to think that "Floridians" would support hockey more than baseball. And they support hockey.

Once again, key part in bold. You name me any city, anywhere, that would support that kind of awfulness.

None that I can think of, except maybe Packer fans.

I am not talking about hockey. My initial comment was on MLB. Please, even if they love ice fishing in Florida, I don't want to talk about it.

I hear ya, but part of that has to with that division. When you're in the same division as the Yanks and the Red Sox and are up against the type of talent that their payroll can provide, odds are that your record isn't going to be that good. But, yeah, I agree with you that it's hard to support a ####ty team. However, you could also talk about the Marlins. Their attendance has been bad now for years and they had some pretty good teams over the years, including winning the World Series twice.

The Bucs pre-97 had an old logo, a low-spending owner who didn't seem to care about winning, and little talent. The Rays pre-08 had an old logo, a low-spending owner who didn't seem to care about winning, and little talent.

The Bucs post-96 have a new logo, new ownership, and young talent that eventually matured into stardom.

The Rays post-07 have a new logo, new ownership, and young talent that eventually matured into stardom.

They share the same fanbase. The only difference is the Bucs have a new stadium.

No attack meant...but its clear you don't know anything about the situation, other than the past attendance numbers. Not sure why you lobbed your opinion in this thread about the area honestly.

No attack taken, but seriously, it's a totally different sport. I understand that it might have a similar situation but it's still a different sport. Football of all kinds is HUGE in Florida. Like I said, my comment was on MLB in Florida and you went off on a tangent about other sports.FWIW, this is the baseball forum.
