RB Antonio Gibson, NE (1 Viewer)

Until Kyle Allen is inserted at qb, I would temper expectations for the entire offense. No opposing defense is worried about Haskins

Kyle Allen would instill concern for opposing defenses?
Kyle has shown he is competent for short periods in terms of throwing the ball. He too has limitations but yes, I would plan to be much more conservative defending an offense led by Allen than Haskins.

Haskins has no reason to be starting in the NFL

The week 1 highlights are not something I'm worried about. @Bracie Smathers post summed up what I saw, as well. There is only 1 play that isn't 8 in the box and it's because it was a 3 wide set so and the Eagles were man up with a single high safety. More than half those plays had a defender in the backfield immediately.

I can't find a similar video with all week 2 touches but there's plenty in this video to keep my optimism high. That run where he beats Hicks in the backfield, then Jones, then Baker is insane.
He definitely looked better than week 1 from what I’ve seen.

He looked good today except for the fumble. For those who said he wasn't a RB, he now has 31 carries in three NFL games, two short of the 33 he had in college. He is the first down and short down back, which is surprising, as his strength I thought would be receiving out of the backfield. Three receptions today and a TD.

Antonio Gibson rushed nine times for 49 yards and a touchdown in Washington's Week 3 loss to the Browns, adding three catches for 11 yards.

Washington wasn't in position to run it for much of the second half, limiting Gibson's opportunity. For the second straight week, Gibson led the team in rush attempts, taking the goal line duties and cashing in for a touchdown. The rookie fumbled in the closing seconds of the first half as he tried to get out of bounds and somehow left the ball in bounds. Gibson will be a flex option next week against the Ravens.

good news: peyton barber is being phased out of the washington offense: 7 total snaps

bad news: jd mckissic saw 36% more backfield snaps and ran 78% more routes than antonio gibson, though gibson still out-touched mckissic 12-8.

This has to be a playbook competency thing.  Doesn’t make sense to limit his receiving work otherwise.

I have to believe that he will be used more in the receiving game as the season progresses.  But right now his fantasy value is TD dependent.

As I have said before I think Gibson needs to work on his route running, his footwork, his releases, changing his speeds during a route all of the little things that matter for earning trust of the coaches and the QB that you will be open and in the right spot on time.

I think this is a lot less complicated for RB routes than WR routes but not surprising to me that McKissic is trusted more than Gibson for these types of things right now.

We know they want Gibson to be an all around RB for them in time. I think he will get there but he isn't there yet.

If he were just trying to earn snaps at WR I think that would be a longer learning curve for him.

Antonio Gibson rushed 13 times for 46 yards and a touchdown in Washington's Week 4 loss to the Ravens, adding four receptions for 82 yards.

The Washington offense mostly ran through Gibson in the first half, before the game got away. He was targeted five times, breaking off a 40-yard catch and run in the first half. He saw almost every goal line opportunity, nearly punching in a second touchdown in the second half. Gibson bounced a couple runs to the outside, displaying his speed and elusiveness. Football Team coaches have said Gibson's role will grow as the season rolls along. They weren't lying. Gibson needs to be in fantasy lineups next week against the Rams. His pass game involvement keeps him involved in the offense even when Washington falls behind.

Glass half full he is making the most of his chances and has scored a short TD in each of the last 3 weeks.  Glass half empty his snap share in week 4 remained below JD freaking McKissic.

I didn't like the matchup and benched him in a lot of spots where it would have made the difference. Bummer. At least I won't be dicking around with him anymore.

That worries me. I tried to ignore last week when Henderson went off but Brown actually got more snaps. We saw this week why that can’t be ignored.

McKissic was only in there because they were in obvious catch up mode so they had a 2nd stringier who is fast and quicker that Gibson. Of course, it didn't help at all. McKissic is nothing going forward.

Yeah but catch up mode is exactly where we want our pass catching speedy RB to be in on.

You can see Gibson starting to get it. He's playing faster.

Few humans on earth are as dynamic as Gibson is at 230 pounds. We could be seeing the tip of the iceberg here.

How good can he be? I'm still not sure, but nobody has a higher ceiling. If I had to project something now, I'd say Gibson has a decent chance to be special.

I have shares of Gibson and Taylor...despite the consensus rankings, Gibson just looks better.
I thought I hit a gold mine drafting Taylor relatively late and having a RB 1 when Mack went down.   His lack of usage in the passing game kills his value.   Four targets in the last 3 games!   I picked up Gibson this week and need to play the RB that is getting carries and targets, no matter what the experts say about O lines or how bad the team plays as a whole.   Actually, the Colts are not playing that well on O.

I gotta say he looked really good on a lot of those plays. He seems to make the first guy miss every time, and he showed some good speed.
Those short choppy steps.

Has the steps of a 5'9" RB.

I cannot enjoy completely, as I only have him in 2 of 4 leagues.

There's a big difference between the two, though. We were wrong to Ignore McVay saying he wants an RBBC / hot-hand / etc. That's not what's happening in DC. Rivera et al have said stated outright that they geared the system towards Gibson and expect to be increasing his involvement as the season progresses.

NFL Rookie Rankings: 10 highest-graded rookies through Week 4

Excerpt:

6. RB ANTONIO GIBSON, WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM

Gibson went off in Week 4 as a receiver. The dynamic back put up a 95.1 receiving grade as he hauled in four of his five targets for 81 yards. Of those four catches, three went for 15-plus yards, and he broke two tackle attempts in the process.

Gibson’s Week 4 outing was reminiscent of his days back at Memphis, where he was more of a slot receiver than running back for the Tigers.

The big worry with him coming into the NFL was his ability to be an effective ball carrier, with just 33 carries in his collegiate career. Gibson hasn’t created many big plays on the ground quite yet, but he has sure been elusive, breaking 11 tackles on 44 carries.

Still extremely raw, learning a new position in the NFL isn't easy. Obviously has the talent to overcome learning curve. Like bigger rbs before him he will need to learn to make a habit of getting lower, runs way too high at times. Vision and patience will come with time, I still strongly believe the qb play is dampering his ceiling.

QB change should get this locomotive chugging. Rams, Giants, Cowboys, Giants, Lions, Bengals, Cowboys
