RB Buckhalter Getting Stronger Each Practice

Marc Marducci, Philadelphia Inquirer - [Full Article]

RB Correll Buckhalter went through his fourth post-practice workout in the past three days. Buckhalter, who has missed the last two years with surgeries on his right knee, has looked stronger each day. On Sunday Buckhalter was running with conviction, catching passes from QB Timmy Chang and showing his cutting ability. Each day he survives one of these workouts could bring Buckhalter closer to finally suiting up in practice.

My Take: Just having Buckhalter running around the field is a 'feel-good' story for the Eagles organization. The Eagles could use his size and power on the field this year with neither Brian Westbrook or Ryan Moats really suited for that role. If he is indeed back from his injury woes, he will get some work as a short-yardage back with possible goal-line touches. Something to watch as the pre-season wears on.

CBuck is the best pure RB they have "if healthy". Big if. Westbrook will line up at WR more than RB if CBuck is healthy.

Going to be tough to project him until we see if he can take a hit on the knee.

If he can play, I see him taking a role as the short-yardage back and that certainly can include some goal-line work.

Not much yardage ultimately (I would be very surprised to see more than 200 rushing yards) but he could end up with 6-8 touchdowns depending on how he is used.

Still too early to tell though at this point.

But what's "better" mean? He's been on crutches so it's better than that obviously. Like you said Chris, nice to see him running and practicing. That's about all I'm "giving him" right now. I'll rank him when/if he plays a few series in a preseason game.

Chris, any more news on Timmy Chang? or just that little mention of him throwing passes to Buck? Curious if "dramatic improvement" in NFLE=roster spot in NFL

All I have heard of him as of late is he is in the best shape of his football career by far and has had some decent moments during mini-camps. Not much has been said about him to this point. Sorry I couldn't be more help :bag:

interesting just the same, thanks

If Im not mistaken, isn't Buckhalter going to start the season on the PUP list?
Yes, but he's on the active PUP list along with Avant and Bloom
Buckhalter will be joined by two rookie wide receivers, fourth-round draft pick Jason Avant and fifth-round choice Jeremy Bloom, on the active PUP list.

By being on the active PUP list, all three players can join the Eagles' workouts when they are medically cleared for practice. Going on the inactive PUP list, a move that typically is not made until before the start of the season, means a player must sit out at least the first six games of the year.

Right, thanks for the clarification. Wasnt aware of the designation and thought he was automatically out for 6 games. Thanks again.

As an Eagles fan, I'll be shocked if Buckhalter is on the active roster come Week 1.

A) Remember, these are post-practice workouts.

B) The day before. it sounded like Buckhalter couldn't even plant on the bad knee.

Buckhalter's comeback continuesBy Marc Narducci

Inquirer Staff Writer

BETHLEHEM, PA - The comeback of Eagles running back Correll Buckhalter continued following today morning’s workout of rookies and selected veterans at Lehigh University.

For the second consecutive day, Eagles coach Andy Reid had Buckhalter do running drills on a side field.

Buckhalter has missed the past two seasons with a torn patellar tendon in his right knee. He also was sidelined for the 2002 season with a torn ACL in his left knee.

Reid has said at the beginning of camp that he would be cautious with Buckhalter. The Eagles, however, need to see if he will warrant a roster spot on the 53-man roster.

Buckhalter is currently on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. A player who remains on that list after the final cuts, must sit out the first nine weeks of the regular season.

Buckhalter took several handoffs from reserve quarterback Timmy Chang and showed more explosion than he did during Friday’s workout.

“He was better today than yesterday and we will keep doing that,” Reid said.

Before clearing Buckhalter to play, Reid is still looking for a few particulars from Buckhalter.

“We want to make sure that he has the confidence he needs to plant on that leg and is strong enough to do that and carry the load,” Reid said.

Buckhalter has been effective in the two seasons he has played for the Eagles, rushing for 1,128 yards (4.4 average) and 10 touchdowns.

Reid says that the organization is all impressed at Buckhalter’s determination during yet another comeback.

“He’s a tough kid both physically and mentally and that is something we always liked about him,” Reid said. “And he is a great kid on top of that. That is why we kept him around here and he has been able to persevere through these injuries and keeps coming back. We have confidence he will do it again.”

Bloom has a torn hamstring. He'll probably go IR. Would make the most sense to me.
Bloom day to day with strained hamstring NFL.com wire reports

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (July 22, 2006) -- Philadelphia Eagles receiver and former Olympian Jeremy Bloom has yet to practice because of a strained hamstring and is listed as day to day.

Bloom, a two-time Olympic skier and fifth-round draft pick, tweaked his hamstring working out with quarterback Donovan McNabb in Arizona. He underwent an MRI on the first day of training camp.

"He does have a strained hamstring, and we'll take this thing day by day," coach Andy Reid said. "It could take a little bit of time."

When you're on crutches for two years, there's a lot of room for "improvement" without ever making it to the level of being an NFL RB again.

The thing I took from that blurb is that he's running with whatever team on the depth chart Timmy Chang QBs, and that probably isn't a good thing.

Eagles RB Buckhalter practices for the first time

Eagles running back Correll Buckhalter, who had been on the Physically Unable to Perform list, practiced for the first time today when the team had its first full squad workout.

Buckhalter has missed each of the last two seasons with a torn right patellar tendon in his knee, and also missed the 2002 season with a left ACL injury.

The team's first full workout in pads will be tomorrow morning.

Chang is gonna bounce around their depth chart all summer

The NFL Season isn't officially underway until Buckhalter blows his knee out.

He's the NFL's answer to the NBA's Grant Hill.
WR Todd Pinkston, who is attempting to come back from a ruptured right Achilles tendon, did not practice due to soreness in his left Achilles tendon. "We'll work to get that out and see how he does here in the next couple of days," coach Andy Reid said. Also missing practice were FB Thomas Tapeh (hamstring) and WR Jeremy Bloom (hamstring). RB Correll Buckhalter (ACL surgery) participated in non-contact drills but was shut down as soon as the tackling began. He displayed a noticeable limp. OT William "Tra" Thomas (back surgery, blood clots) was back on the field after being held out of Monday's drills as a precaution.
