The kid is in a good position and may well help me win a championship on said team.

You gotta wonder how he will be viewed at next years drafts if he explodes the next few weeks and does great into the postseason for the Cards.

I posted a A YouTube link last page I think of Bruce Arians and the general manager talking about David Johnson after they had drafted him. Based off that interview it's fairly obvious that They fully intended for him to be the lead back of the team. Don't think they thought it would be this early but due to circumstances I think this is David Johnson's job moving forward barring injury.

I can see him being drafted as a first or second round pick next year if this continues

 
If you have a completely expendable roster spot (which is really anyone you wouldn't feel comfortable leaning on in the playoffs) or have a first round bye I'd suggest cuffing DJ with Kerwynn Williams. Around this same time last year, Ellington went down and Williams was similarly activated from the PS. His stat lines..

Week 14 - 19/100

Week 15 15/75 (2 catches for 11 yards and a fumble)

Week 16 - 2/4 (have to assume due to the fumble, plus they got blown out by SEA 36-3)

Week 17 - 17/67

He's clearly no DJ and would split time with Taylor to an extent but I like what I saw last week and I like the TNF insurance. After the game (assuming DJ is fine) you can just can cycle him out and move on (assuming Yahoo).

From the limited college game cut-ups that were out there he did run a little tentatively coming into the league - but I'm glad to see him using his size to his advantage as a pro.

 
Owned him for about 10 weeks before just having to let him go. Now I am playing in the playoffs. Awful part is my opponent has a terrible team, second lowest points, but due to RB has a loaded backfield. Worst part is he didn't even know he owned David Johnson at first. Meant to add Duke Johnson.

Same here. I included him in a trade involving Dion Lewis back when Lewis was tearing it up and DJ was a 3rd stringer to a team that was out of the playoff hunt. Now I may end up facing this team in the playoffs. :wall:

Great call. Just snagged Kerwynn this am. I think it's clear he is the handcuff to DJ should he go down.

 
This guy has gotten too good too soon. He's forcing difficult decisions.

Crazy as it sounds I have considered starting him over AdP since Adrian Peterson is coming off his worst performance this year and he's facing the tough Arizona defense on the road on a short week whereas Bruce Arians intentionally saved the legs of DJ because he knew he'd be feeding him Thursday on a short week.

Thomas Rawls is my other starter and he's been delivering like a green grocer with 391 yards and 3 TDs over his last three games plus 66 receiving yards and 1 receiving TD which is INSANE compared to AdP who over the last thee games has 221 rushing yards 3 rush TDs plus 41 receiving yards so no doubt about it I'm rolling with Rawls as one starter but Per DJ.

Never would have thought for a second I would consider starting him over Adrian Peterson before his start last Sunday and will probably roll with AdP but the fact I'm even considering it astounds me.

Happily rolling with DJ and Rawls this week. Next best guy is Gore so it's an easy decision.
 
Drafted him in all leagues, held him until like week 9 when the extension talks for CJ were happening and Arians was talking about David getting his touches reduced for playing like a rookie.

What a terrible season to be a David Johnson owner.

i know I will probably get skewered and hear it form all the "wish I played in your league" trolls, but I am fortunate to be loaded at RB with these same RBs in my keeper league with the addition of Gurley. I can play one at flex but then need to sit one. Right now I'm leaning on benching Gurley and keeping Johnson in my lineup. Fortunately I have a bye this week to see how things shake out. Bottom line is that Johnson looks great right now.
 
Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Wednesday he expects Andre Ellington (turf toe) to return in Week 15.

After Thursday night's game against the Vikings, the Cardinals will get ten days to rest ahead of their Week 15 date with Philly. The role Ellington returns to may depend on David Johnson's effectiveness on Thursday night. There's a strong argument to be made that Johnson can do everything Ellington does, and more, and better. Ellington has been a fantasy non-factor all year.

I don't agree. I think he has a longer leash with CJ on IR. No one on that team at the RB position has the physical tools, besides Ellington who can't do more then 5 to 10 touches a game, to just win a game. He is the future of the team at the RB position. He would have to just implode. Say a couple of fumbles and miss a couple of blocks in pass pro getting Palmer smacked. Then he could see the bench.

I would have been curious to see if he put the ball on the ground on the 5th carry if he would have still got the 22 is the unknown for me.

Loved seeing the hawks go right back to Rawls last week after his fumble. Not sure that happens with Johnson is my concern.

John Brown got plenty of playing time last year as a rookie too.

I think Arians' handling of Andre Ellington his rookie year is where some of these rumors come from. I remember he continually hinted that he was worried about Ellington getting injured for some reason, maybe he thought Ellington was too small to be a workhorse. So despite showing talent his carries were limited. Bruce hasn't talked that way about Johnson, and he already has more carries in a game than Ellington did his rookie year.

I do not think this is the time of year where you try to teach players lessons. This is when you utilize your best players and their best abilities.

Johnson is the best RB on the team, he is a play maker who needs to be given a chance to make plays not sit on the bench. Arians may bench him if a bye wasnt up for grabs down the stretch. You do not want to mess with the psyche of a a guy you may need to carry you some games during the stretch too.

Lots in play with certain decisions, I do not think a quick hook for a guy you need to have confident is a wise coaching move.

Well, he was in on the very next snap after his fumble and caught a TD the snap after that. He didnt play much in the 4th quarter but Arians stated that the plan going into the game was to rest Johnson in the 4th. 20 carries thru 3 quarters is a lot for any RB, let alone a rookie getting his first feature workload in the NFL.

I understand and share some of the concerns about ball security here but think that Arian's short leash thing here is being a bit overstated. Hopefully we won't have to find out.

Did not know that he fumbled last week. That makes me feel better. Thanks.

 
He fumbled and the ruling on the field was that STL had recovered it. Upon review it was determined that the STL player was out of bounds and ball was given back to ARI. Johnson was in on the next snap which was a pass play to Brown. And then he caught a TD on the snap after that.

Would have been interesting to see if things would have been different had STL recovery not been overturned. Also, I mentioned in this thread during the game that it was an odd looking play that Johnson fumble on. I need to go look at it again but it almost looked to me like it was a HB option and that he was thinking of throwing the ball. That may have played a factor in him not have the ball tucked all the way.

Either way, ball security is a concern but hopefully wont be an issue.

I have been debating with my league mates about week 16 and what may happen regarding players resting.

Any chance Arians sits starter such as DJ week 16 if Carolina is still undefeated (Car plays at 10 and AZ plays at 1 PST)?

 
I just watched the all 22 and the play where DJ fumbled was definitely a run/pass HB option. All of the linemen stay at the LOS and Floyd runs a route into the endzone.

He needs to protect the ball regardless but I think that played a factor in his never having the ball fully secured.

Most vulnerable on the ground, the Vikings rank 25th in Football Outsiders' run-defense DVOA and have yielded a 100-plus-yard rusher in three straight games (Eddie Lacy, Tevin Coleman, Thomas Rawls). This is a good-looking draw for new Cardinals feature back David Johnson, who parlayed 24 touches into 120 yards and a touchdown in last Sunday's win at St. Louis while logging 71% of Arizona's offensive snaps. Johnson is a legitimate RB1 play in Week 14.

BA isn't dumb, he knows the only way MIN even remotely stands a chance tonight is if AP gets 20-30 touches and excels with them. MIN's pass game as been atrocious and the defense is decimated, BA will commit as many resources as he feasibly can to stop AP tonight.

Will he stop him? Maybe. It depends on your definition of "stop". Do I think AP will have some weird 8 for 18 game like he did last week? No chance. Something like 25/90/0 (ARI allows 90YPG on the ground) seems more feasible with a couple receptions thrown in. A TD will define his night.

I do however think the way this game sets up for DJ (much better ground match-up, MIN projected as heavy underdogs, fresh legs, likely more involvement in the passing game) and he has a higher floor/ceiling. It's close, but I'd personally go DJ. I've also been known to sit studs because I'll essentially sit anyone, I don't give a ####.

Um he's doing pretty good at the half.

- 10 carries

- 53 rush yards

- 2 receptoins

- 6 receiving yards

Not bad at all but I'm glad I started Adrian Peterson instead over him right now but I think DJ will get at least one long'ish reception and still crank out decent yards, maybe even possibly score but if he only equals his first half then its a decent fantasy game.
