Here are the current RB depth charts according to NFL.com including some free agents that I am aware of. Please add information on other RBs on this list who may be free agents or rumored cap casualties/cuts. Also if there is a RB not listed here that you think has a legitimate chance to start or be the #2 RB please let me know so I can add that player. All of the players ages are listed so we can look at who may decline or retire/be cut because of age.

Looking through this list which teams seem most likely to draft a rookie RB or possibly sign a free agent?

Seattle will be a lock to invest in a RB.

I think they'll ax Alexander and take the cap hit. Paying his salary is almost equal to absorbing his prorated signing bonus against the 2008 salary cap. Gee. Save the money and get a new RB? Um, no brainer.

Who? It wouldn't be too popular, but I think Chris Brown would fit into this system well, and he won't cost a ton either. Wouldn't be surprised to see them invest a second or third round pick into a RB as well.

These are the situations that I see being questionable:

Arizona - Will Edge be the uncontested RB again in 2008? What is his contract status? Will he be retained? Even if he is the feature RB again in 2008 I see Arizona as a team that should be looking for another RB to take over in 2009 at least. I do not see JJ Arrington as the answer.

Atlanta - Will Norwood be their feature RB? Can he be their feature RB? I think another RB needs to be brought in at least for Depth. I don't see how Dunn who will be almost 34 years old can be part of the team with a increasing salary. Pinner is no spring chicken either.

Chicago - It has allready been stated by management that another RB will be brought in to compete with Benson.

Cleveland - I think Jamal Lewis will resign here, but what if he doesen't? Lewis is almost 29 years old at the begining of next season. He will not be a long term solution for them, but I could see them rolling with him again in 2008. Can Harrison and/or Wright be a feature back instead?

Broncos - Haha.

Texans - Definite needs for a starter and a backup RB here.

Miami - I dunno if Brown can stay healthy. Reefer Williams? I could see another RB here although it is unlikely.

Patriots - They didn't give Maroney the ball much. Maybe they need someone else. Never know what the Pats will do.

NY Jets - Jones is getting old. They could use another RB.

Raiders - Im not confident in any of their RBs.

Seahawks - Alexander looks done. Morris is getting older even if they have confidence in him as the heir to SAlex.

Steelers have to bring another back in case FWP gets hurt again. I think they learned their lesson after seeing how Davenport played.

Texans

A. Green at the moment, Kubiak and co. are saying that he will be back and his injury just needs rest, but also have indicated that younger options will be brought in.

Ron Dayne is technically a free agent although everyone in these parts thinks he will be back.

A. Echemandu was cut before week 17.

Chris Taylor is returning from injury.

Darius Walker played in a handful of games doen the stretch and despite some moments had the look of a career back-up at best.

I can't imagine that Kubiak would be comfortable with Ahman as his lead sled dog next year. Sure he was hurt, but wasn't all that effective in the time he did start and will be 31 when camp opens.

I'd add Snelling to the Atlanta deoth chart...I think he's #3 right now.

Edited to add... You forgot Cincy on your list.

I'm pretty sure Priest Holmes is actually retired, but you might need to confirm that. From what I remember his neck was why he quit playing this year and it is just too dangerous for him to play again.

Thanks for the feedback, I updated the master list.

Here is a ranking of the teams that may be looking at rookies or free agents by need and category:

Teams that really need a RB

Raiders

Texans

Unless you think Mike Bush is the answer or the Raiders resign Fargas I see the Raiders needing a RB. I don't think the Texans can count on Ahman or their backups. Still may not be a priority for them yet if they want to continue building the defense.

Teams with aging starters

Seahawks

Jets

Cardinals

Teams with younger starters that have question marks

Bears

Dolphins

Falcons

Team with UFA starter

Browns

If Cleveland resigns Jamal then they may not pursue another RB at all. If they don't sign him then they would probobly move to the top of this list as far as needing a RB

Teams with some fairly solid to very solid starters that may be looking for depth

Broncos

Patriots

Steelers

Chargers

I will add draft position to this next to look at who is most likely to invest a 1st round pick on a rookie RB.

Dude, I have been on this the past week.

2008 Off-season RB landscape:

Dynasty Rankings Blog

Kind of a rough first draft, but there it is.
Oh sweet. :headbang: Yeah I was gonna ask for your help on some of this the other day but got distracted with work.

I still think it's useful to have this here for discussion purposes, especially from posters who follow a specific team very closely.

For example I do think some team is going to get a quality RB in Mewelde Moore. The Vikings are unlikely to retain him. He doesen't contribute enough on special teams (he has had KR and PR duties and was nothing special) and there is no incentive for him to stay when he is burried behind AD and Chester. If the Vikings were to trade Chester instead of MM then he would have a role with the team. I don't see that happening however.

Moore is good enough to fill a backup role or even compete in a time share for many of the above teams.

I thought walker looked ok at RB this season. Probably not good enough to have the job. Needs to be added to the list though :goodposting:

I am really surprised they did not bring in a receiving / 3rd down speedy type back after Parker got hurt for the end of the season.... I know they don't grow on trees but I think this hurt them greatly.

Does anyone know the contract status for Chris Perry RB Bengals?
I can't imagine that Perry is even in the equation, no matter how much Rudi is out of it. For all the hype, he can't stay healthy and I doubt Marvin trusts him enough.
Your probobly right and I certainly don't think the Bengals would rely on him as a starter without Rudi. However the talk is about significant changes for the Bengals next year by Palmer and the HC. Palmers best season was when he had Perry available as a 3rd down COP, so if he can get healthy they may look to use him in this way again.I am wondering about his contract status because he has been in the league long enough that his 1st contract should be close to over if the Bengals do not cut him. More likely than not Perry will never amount to anything. But a new team and if he can get healthy would be his last window of opportunity. So I am curious what his contract status is. He is not even listed on the Bengals roster right now because he is on the PUP.
