RB D'Ernest Johnson, NE (2 Viewers)

I view this signing as a reason to drop him.
He's actually always been a good player when given a chance. I do expect Bigsby to move into the backup role behind ETN, but it's far from a given. so maybe people should hold off on just dropping him.

If he sticks in Jax, he' a sneaky end-of-bench hold. Has looked good in pre-season (5.7 y/c, 3 Td's, & caught 5 balls), Jags offense should be good, Etienne not a goal line back and has been known to get injured, Tank a rookie with questionable pass pro skills and receiving chops, and he always showed out as a Brown when given opportunity.

what’s the story with D’Ernest this year? He played over Bigsby this week and he showed two years ago what he’s capable of doing if given a chance. Is he a sneaky stash, or would a bigsby be the lead back should Etienne go down?

I'd say if Etienne goes down next week Johnson would probably be at least a 50% part of the RB share. If Etienne goes down later in the year it's more likely that Tank is the direct handcuff.

I disagree. Tank Bigsby is the one to own if ETN went down, both now and later. Johnson is lucky to be on an NFL roster.

I think we are mostly agreeing. I just think Bigsby has looked like a rookie early and probably wouldn't get the full reigns right now. But that should change as the season goes on.

Jaguars agreed to terms with RB D’Ernest Johnson on a one-year contract.
Johnson didn’t see much run on offense during the first half of his debut season in Jacksonville. Things changed in his final nine games as the Jags deployed him on at least 20 percent of their snaps eight times over that stretch. He finished the year with 41 carries for 108 yards and 10 receptions for 140 yards. Johnson will return to compete with Tank Bigsby for backup duties in 2024.

That’s an impressive 2.6 YPC for those mathing at home.

Surprised the Jags signed him. Easily replaced in the draft. Maybe it’s convenience since he knows the offense.

I snagged him in Arizona after he couldn't make the Baltimore squad. Not beating out Keaton Mitchell and Rashaan Ali is one thing; not beating out Bam Knight and Michael Carter is quite another, but before I slag D'Ernest I should point out those guys have been with Arizona for quite some time.

Henderson seems like the guy that should get the work but McDaniels cannot help himself when it comes to not playing rookies, it seems. I am not a Pats homer like some guys on here are like Boston and Lansdowne who tend to have their finger on the pulse. Or if Anarchy99 pops in, he's got a good historical read on the Pats but not necessarily Vrabel. Listen to them. Can't hurt to pick up D'Ernest but it's a roster spot and I don't know how Vrabel will weave his new guys in; so it could be a zero if you start any of these cats (besides Henderson, most likely).

Signed by the Patriots, worth a pickup IMO, just grabbed him for free in most of my leagues.
You must have a deep roster to be able to roster this dude. No chance I have room to pick him up and I play in 20 roster spot leagues with all the injuries and byes I can't afford to carry this dude.

Take this with a complete grain of salt because it is probably BS...Vrabel has been really talking up Jennings about him doing the right things and being a hard worker and good teammate...Vrabel has been all about culture since he took over...due to that I could see him giving Jennings a legit opportunity to do something tomorrow...that being said the quotes below do add a little intrigue...the trade deadline is on Tuesday and adding a RB is probably on the table so they may want to give Johnson a few looks as well to see what they have with him.

From Vrabel's press conference:

Q: Does it help with D'Ernest [Johnson], just him having so much experience?
MV: I think that, again, different categories of players that are on the practice squad. Young guys that you're taking a look at maybe for future development, you see how they fit into what you do. Then, other guys that have played in this league and can get ready on a shorter amount of time.
Q: What's impressed you the most about Terrell Jennings?
MV: I think, one, he's a great teammate. I believe that, I know that, I've seen that. He cares about his teammates. Plays hard, unselfish, and then he runs hard. I think he's improved. He's improved his skill set from the time that we've gotten here in the spring. He's taking advantage of his opportunities, whether that be on the special teams unit – he had a couple tackles last week and was excited. Everybody was excited that he got one of those special teams game ball recognitions. He's done a good job when he's been in there. So, excited to see him continue to play.

Non zero chance he goes from PS to fantasy relevance with this many stickers on his suitcase but I'm not desperate enough to take the chance. Your desperation level may vary.

In some ways if he is to have fantasy relevance it would be being just good enough to take some touches away from Stevenson and Henderson...he is nowhere near the player Gibson is and Gibson barely had a standalone fantasy pulse.

For the record I dropped Chris Moore, and a 2nd kicker or defense in my leagues to grab him. Do I expect much? Nope. But with this team, would it really surprise anyone if he got more burn than Henderson? (which sucks because I drafted Henderson in a TON of leagues)

Johnson might be a JAG,but he has to be good as Jennings at least.
I think the experience he has will get him just enough touches to ruin Hendersons value.
Johnson is a decent pass catcher too.

Watch him start over Henderson and Jennings next week, once caught up to speed..
Its how Patriots do things.

Guess you haven't played this game long enough to realize that ANYTHING can happen.
I can see D Johnson carving out a nice role.

Twenty years - long enough to see "anything" happen now and then but also not happen more often.
