RBBC planned in Green-Bay (1 Viewer)

It was just one game against an injury depleted defense so don't count too heavily on Morency or count out Green just yet. Green has been pretty good so far this year (was 5th in scoring in my league before he sat out this past weekend), so he won't be sat for performance. Just my opinion, but this sounds like GB feels they may have found a back for the future and have found an effective back for now to pick up the slack behind Green. This situation needs a couple weeks for any clarity.

Green is their best back and gives them their best chance to win. Green is a proven veteran and has looked great thus far.
Before Monday night, I would have agreed with you on this. But after watching the kid in his first extended action, I'm not so sure. He looked much quicker that Green exploding through the hole. He got around the end on one play that Green hasn't been able to do since the very first play of the season. I'm not writing Green off by any means, but he looked shaky against the Saints and didn't fare very well running the ball against the Lions. If he continues to struggle, and Morency keeps looking like he looked Monday night, I would not be suprised to see a slow changing of the guard at RB.
It might play out that way. I need to see Morency a lot more though. Of course he is quicker, all the younger guy's are quicker as they should be. I just think Green still has a decent amount left in the tank. The hamstring does bother me though. He has been a pleasent suprise in PPR HP leagues so i hope he can continue to be a nice value for me. I picked him up dirt cheap in a couple of my dynasty leagues, and in the late 6th in a redraft.
gotta love cliche football statements like "he still has a decent amount left in the tank"... if he has lost quickness with age as you indicate, what does he really have left in his tank that surpasses what morency brings to the table? experience??? i'm not knocking experience, but I don't think it's a quality GB is that interested at this point in time (unless you're name is brett favre)

What's Green's contract status? Could Morency be the starter next year with Green leaving?
That's tough to call. Last year there were many people here claiming that Gado would be the starter with the Packers this year.
And the fact they traded Gado away to get Morency is a pretty good sign for Morency...
Right. But Gado once killed a man with his bare hands just to watch him die.(Still my favorite...)

Not much to worry about if you are a Green owner. If he kept getting 25-30 carries a game he would never make it through the season. 20 carries and 4-6 catches would keep him scoring for fantasy but wouldn't wear him down as much.
+1

My point is what does Morency bring to the table other than youth. He is not a better runner and his skills are not better than Green's. I don't think Green has fallen behind Morency one iota! Green still has speed and when he get's to the second level of the defense he can still make big plays as I am sure he will this season. He is a far better pass catcher as well. And he has the confidence of the staff and Favre. I do not think Green has anything to worry about as long as he plays the way he has in his first 3 weeks.

I just don`t think Green can stay healthy after that injury last year. Muscle imbalances cause pulls. Green has had 2 hammy pulls already this year. It is looking like he may be out Sunday as well.

Morency was a good pickup for whoever scooped him.

I think this is a case of what the blogger says vs. the whole article. Sounds like they are just holding him back this week. Everything I've read is that they were surprised he didn't play last week and should go this week, with Morency more involved.

Green Bay - Green Bay -The Green Bay Packers were encouraged by what they saw Monday night from newcomers Vernand Morency and Brandon Miree to continue with the running back and fullback as major role players in the offense.

Not that they have much choice at running back at the moment, anyway.

After looking stable in individual drills, Ahman Green did not participate in a complete practice again Thursday for the second consecutive day. He missed the Philadelphia game Monday with two injured hamstrings. This is the third consecutive week Green has missed some practice time because of injury.

"He did a little bit," offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski said. "He'll be fine."

Green's absence left the bulk of the practice workload to Morency. In his second National Football League start, Morency impressed the Packers with 26 carries for 99 yards against the Eagles.

Most important question of all...who get the goal line carries?
Well, after four failed tries from the 2 and the 1 for Morency, I'll say...Green.
Not sure how much of that was Morency's fault. Did you see the play calling for that series? :yucky: 1st & goal at the 2, run off left Tackle / Guard...1 yard

2nd & goal at the 1, run off left Tackle / Guard...stuffed!

3rd & goal at the 1, run off left Tackle / Guard...stuffed!

4th & goal at the 1, run off left Tackle / Guard...stuffed!

Play calling...brilliant. :X

[thought bubble]"They'd be crazy to think we'd run that play a third fourth time in a row!"

[/thought bubble]

THe Morency goal-line plays were very predictable.. seemed like McCarthy was telling Reid.. Here it comes, stop it if you can, our offensive line will come off the blocks faster than your defense... I saw the entire series of plays and didn't thinks that Morency had a chance... now you put a bigger bruiser in there (Bettis, Eddie George etc) they may have had more success because they were really just trying to power it in

Reminds me of that great Lombardi story. He was pissed at the team's execution in a game, so the next practice they ran the power sweep over and over and over until finally someone (can't remember who) said "Coach, I think even Ray knows what's comming..."

According to the audio feed of McCarthys news conference I think Green practiced today and "looked good"

The video from packers.com does not include these comments becasue it starts right after this question. The audio from Packersnews.com does have it but it is garbled.

Can someone else listen to it and see if they hear the same thing I do?

Green owners have plenty to worry about... He may get 20 carries a game (an optimistic projection at that), but his receptions will inevitably drop with morency coming in on 3rd downs (his success thus far has been through the passing game)... Couple that with the injuries that keep cropping up... I'm glad I don't own Green
I expressed those exact same concerns a couple of weeks ago when Morency was first traded for. It went over like a lead ballon.
Now we know why.
