Re-staining a swing set. Help. (1 Viewer)

Quick question: how thorough do I need to be removing the old stain before I can apply new stain? I’m using a pressure washer and am wondering if I am spending wayyyy too much time trying to get it all off. Since I’m using the same color as previously, im thinking I should just clean it lightly, sand away the splinters, and go. Thoughts?

You need to get the "gray" off and any loose stain. You don't have to go to bare wood every where if using the same colot

if it’s peeling you need to get it off. If it’s soaked in and just faded, you pretty much just have to make sure it’s clean.

I used bondo to fix cracks last week on a park bench. I wish I sanded more of it off. You can always go back and fix it if needed.

how much longer are you planning to keep the set? I don't think you need to go to far. Remove the loose stuff and get it clean. It's not a table in your dining room.

Depends who you ask, and if you happen to ask me, I’ll be wrong. If you know what I mean…
