I'm with you this year.RodgersBreesManningBradySchaubRomoRiversAfter that I think you will be wishing you had taken one of the big 6.I usually sit and wait for the QB's, but assuming the big 3 are gone I'm seriously considering taking Romo or maybe even Schaub with my 3rd pick. I see bigger ? marks after these 5 qb's are gone.Right or wrong
If you are drafting in the early part of the 3rd round you may have to draft one of these guys at that time.Otherwise I think you can wait a round.3rd round? What is this, a 5 team league?
Good pick. I went into the draft thinking I wanted one of the top 7 QBs and would grab one when maybe 5 were gone. They went quick and I got Romo as #7 off the board in the 4th. Whew. That was close. Thought Phillips would be the last one gone but a guy liked him over Romo. I like Romo to finish top 5 with all those weapons. No worries on preseason as many cowboy fans have pointed to the reasons.Great value for you and me but I would caution future drafters to be prepared and pull the trigger when the top 7 are getting thin. Even if it's earlier than you like, because this year it probably will be.With the preseason Dallas is having, some of the hype has died down. I watched Rodgers, Brees, Manning, and Brady all go by 3.2 of a 10 teamer. Schaub went at the very end of the 4th and Romo was there for me at 5.6 so if your league watches a lot of preseason like mine does, you may be able to wait based on your scoring system. Ours was 1/20yd and 4/td.
This is a good point, and great stat on the points/game. I think my discomfort comes in so many of the 8-15 range having huge questions marks. The only guys I'd feel confident drafting as an every week starter is Flacco (he's this year's Schaub imo - lower ranked guy I'm confident will be top 10 all year). Kolb doesn't have a track record, Favre's hurt and lost top target, Eli had a career year and most likely regresses to mean, Ryan is on a run-first team, Mcnabb has terrible receivers, etc. Will one ore more guy in that range hit and have a very good year? Sure. I just am not confident which one it will be.I know it appears that you should take one of the Top 6 QBs early this year, but you don't necessarily have to feel compelled to get one of those guys. It's still possible to get more than adequate QB play in the lower rounds. Case in point, in my 12-team performance league last year, Tony Romo went in the 4th round and Eli Manning (who I took as my 2nd QB) went in the 12th. The differential in total point production between the two QBs for that season was 29 points, less than 2 pts/game. Given that, Manning provided far more value based on where he was taken. I think you can definitely get by with Flacco, Eli or Kevin Kolb in the later rounds. No need to panic.
Agreed. That's a tough spot. You really have to think hard predraft about what way you go at the 3/4 turn as the impact of that pick will be large this year.I knew during my draft prep that the 2/3 turn in our 10 teamer would put me on this tough decision. I spent most of my time gaming this scenario and trying to decide what to do. You seem to have the same quandary, except at different spots.I narrowed it down to several likely scenarios and just pondered those. Ultimately I was faced with one of these likely scenarios and just did what I was predetermined to do. Made the choice easier as I felt more confident that I had thought it through rather than making an on-the-spot call. One thing to always remember is that value will fall through if there is a run on QBs and you will have some great opportunities. But you gotta catch it and make it pay. This is the bummer of having the #12 in a 12 team league. If Rodgers Brees Manning are gone at 1.12/2.1 (and they all have been in 4 mocks I've done), I don't wanna reach on Brady or Romo. But neither of them or Schaube are making it back to me at 3.12/4.1 and then I'm left to decide whether to reach for Rivers (reach IMO anyway) at 4.1 or punt and hope for Flacco at the 5/6 or Kolb at the 7/8. Driving me crazy.Long story short, I think those of you who are getting one of the top 7 QBs at a value slot should count yourself lucky.
