Hey, FBG'ers.

Many of you know that I've recently been chasing the dream of being a full-time writer (fool that I am).

The good news is that my first novel - Hostile Takeover - continues to get great reviews and is selling pretty well for a book by a guy no one's ever heard of. If you like thrillers (David Baldacci or Dennis Lehane or Gillian Flynn), please give it a shot and let me know what you think (and if you really want to be my hero, recommend it to friends/family/book-clubs). 

But that's not the point of the post (just the obligatory commercial so I can hopefully feed my children).

Was flattered to have recently won an award in a fiction contest for a "flash fiction" entry (stories less than 500 words in length...which is basically "back-of-a-cereal-box" short...a unique challenge when it comes to telling a story).

Can't kill this. I loved it. No wonder you won a prize for it. Any constructive criticism would spoil it for others, but there's really no need. The only thing that I found was a negative were a few words I didn't like -- they broke up your otherwise excellent sort of word pacing, but that was just fun to read. :thumbsup.

And was the perfect length for when I was pretty sure I was done pooping but wanted to wait and see if there was another round in the chamber. Which, as you know, is what all good literature should aspire to be.

agreed. a few minor changes to syntax is all i would recommend.

Btw, Hostile Takeover seems to be a very common book title.  Nothing you can do about that now, but maybe name the series after the main character or something.  I had trouble finding your book on GoodReads by title.  (It is there, don't worry about that.)

Great story, well done but you're kinda freaking me out.  My favorite stuffed animal when I was a kid was my monkey (had plastic hands, feet and head), the name of my band in high school was Hostile Takeover (I named it) and I lived in Frisco for 10 years.  Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Poke. Yeah, It's amazing how many books are titled "Hostile Takeover" (with about 90% of them falling into some level of erotica...clearly I need to insert more sexual bondage and role playing into my next book...but that probably goes without saying.)

Truthfully, it'll take me six months to get around to reading it (I'm a writer myself - non fiction / marketing copy / 2 boring business books - so my free time is usually spent *away* from words.) But when i do, I'll remember this thread and let you know.
