The Official FBG Top 70 Fiction Books of All Time - DEADLINE FOR LIST SUBMISSIONS EXTENDED TO MARCH 30, 2025 (1 Viewer)

First is the number of selections within the time period; second is the highest ranking within that time period. As I expected, the 1990s and early 2000s dominated. I just read a lot more in the 90s and the first half of the 2000s. Not sure what happened to the 1970s!

The most recent book on my list is from 2015. :bag:

Pre-1890s: 4 (22)

1890s: 2 (11)

1920s: 2 (12)

1930s: 3 (20)

1940s: 5 (10)

1950s: 8 (3)

1960s: 7 (2)

1970s: 1 (31)

1980s: 8 (4)

1990s: 17 (1)

2000s: 11 (18)

2010s: 2 (19)

Ok got my list in.

I have this nagging feeling that I've completely forgotten something(s).

Thanks @kupcho1 - it will be very interesting to see how many common books we have in the top 50. I am guessing there will be a ton of singleton entries.

I bet we all will have. After I submitted OH's list and was working on mine, I mentioned to him that I was surprised he didn't have my #7 on his list. He'd totally blanked on it. Would have been in his top 25, I'd guess.

What is the ruling on a book that contains a collection of novels/novellas that were also published separately?

Well that's a new one.

I suppose we should only be including short story collections that were originally published as such. If a novel later gets compiled with other work, I think the novel should be a standalone entity.

I've already got a count set up for books in the top 25. No real magic to 25 although it dovetails with having the top 25 books get a little extra in terms of points assigned.

Couldn't agree more with this.

There's a new favorite in the clubhouse.
Remember how I asked you to include " by " if you're submitting by text?
What happens when the book title has " by " in it?

I'll tell you what. Hilarity.

Moby **** in the lead!

(No, I don't really think so.)

I currently have 82 on my list, with 15 being from female authors. Nearly 20% is definitely better than I do with music countdowns. :)

11 female authors made my final list. My list might suffer from the fact that I've never read Alcott, Austen, or the Bronte sisters. I told you all I wasn't well-read on the classics.

Damn, I currently have two such entries. Easy for me to pick one of the entries for one, not so much for the other.

Five books by four different women. :bag:

8 women.

I did read and finish an Austen but it didn't make it.

I did include a book by a female author that will likely have you howling. But it was very important to my BFF and me in the 90s. :) And I was trying to up my number of females.

OK, so I've sketched out a schedule.

3/31: with statistics and top books not making the top 300
4/1 - 4/3: Books 300 - 201 roughly 33 per day over 3 days (groups may vary based on ties, etc.)
4/4 - 4/8: Books 200 - 101 roughly 20 per day (give or take) over 5 days
4/9 - 4/13: Books 100 - 26 roughly 15 per day over 5 days
4/14: Books 25 - 21, 1 at a time
4/15: Books 20 - 16, 1 at a time
4/16: Books 15 - 11, 1 at a time
4/17: Books 10 - 6, 1 at a time
4/18: Books 5 - 1, 1 at a time

I'll try and split reveals as evenly as possible, but I won't always be able to do so given ties and stated cut-offs.

I'm looking forward to starting tomorrow.

Elizabeth! Elizabeth! This is the big one! I’m coming to join you!

I'm in a Redd Foxx mood and used this in another thread, but this one was first and had a purpose. We'll find out when the countdown comes.

I don't know if the two thoughts by kupcho above are connected. If they were, it's The Great Gatsby for the win.

I'll check if any more lists come in tonight when I wake up tomorrow. If any come in, I'll update the sheet. Otherwise, all systems are a go.

Book reveal eve special bonus: the book that wrecked my find/replace system was Pierced by a Sword by Bud Macfarlane Jr.
(This book did not place in the top 300 as of this moment. If additional entries come in ranking it, mea culpa.)

Good night.

List sent.

45 unique authors. Number of authors with multiple entries:
10 books - 1
5 books - 1
3 books - 3
2 books - 5

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!

What can I say, I'm an agent of chaos. :shades:
