Reche visits Jets

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

The Jets hosted free-agent receiver Reche Caldwell on a visit at their team headquarters today.

The visit comes one day after Caldwell was released by the Patriots.

The Jets have six receivers on the roster: Jerricho Cotchery, Laveranues Coles, Justin McCareins, Brad Smith, Wallace Wright and Chansi Stuckey.

It is possible that they have genuine interest in Caldwell, who led the Patriots with 61 receptions last season. Or they might be more interested in some information he could pass along about how the Patriots are preparing to attack the Jets.

Maybe Caldwell is a double agent for the Patriots and they are using him to give the Jets mis-information....yeah that the ticket! lolI really doubt there is genuine interest since they seem to be pretty stacked already.

Tom Coughlin used to be known for this type of trickery.

I'd be OK with the team signing Caldwell to replace McCareins.

I bet they learned their lesson a few years ago when they let Milloy go, then he wigned with Buffalo.

They must have known for a few days now they were letting him go and I doubt they gave him the game plan for this week.

most teams have alot of the gameplan for week 1 ready pretty early

Caldwell is a quality player. He led a very good NFL team in receiving last year. He has playoff experience. I think New England made a mistake in letting him go and not keeping him on as at the very least the 5th reciever. Why wouldnt the Jets want him as their 5th WR at the very least? Imo, picking him up is a no-brainer for any team.

Caldwell's a role player, and I think teams have seen enough of him to know that they don't want to have to count on him. You think it's a coincidence the Pats went out and grabbed 3 high-profile WRs this offseason?
