Recommend a Movie for Tonight (1 Viewer)

Could not make it through The Last Duel

Tried 3 times

Something about the South Boston boys trying to do a period piece.

Kept laughing like I was watching Team America

I’m assuming you have HBO Max so I would throw out

Judas and The Black Messiah- story of the killing of Fred Hampton, told in the form a Donnie Braso undercover style story

Shiva Baby- uncomfortable comedy about a Jewish college girl making money as a sex worker on the side

Rashomon- the original Last Duel in terms of the multi POV story telling

Watched 'You were never really here' last night

Joaquin Phoenix was great as usual, but the movie itself was a bore.

Anyone have some more recommendations?

LOL Nobody recommended that! I could have told you it was pretty mediocre. I did like the score though (Johnny Greenwood strikes again).

What kind of movie are you looking for since all of yesterday's recs were misses?

I watched The Dark Tower on plane yesterday and was entertained.  Terrible reviews on RT but I would give it a solid 7.5/10.  Idris Elba is awesome.  Oh - I rented on Amazon Prime for 4 bucks.

Hopscotch- walter matthau and julie chrystie early 80s spy comedy

Manhunter- (you've probably seen it already) predated prequel to Silence of the Lambs directed by Michael Mann

Anything really.  No particular genre.

Nobody with Bob Odenkirk on Hbo max
Disjointed plot, poor editing and unmemorable action sequences outside of the bus scene which was passable.

Odenkirk isn't an action hero and was having trouble handling hefting around the bad guys which is understandable now based on his recent heart attack.

I loved it.

Ive been wanting to check this out but I figure it'll be another King tale that doesn't translate well to the big screen, like usual.  That series is nuts!

I liked Nightmare Alley.  I went to grab a beer and think I missed something on why the blonde double crossed the magician at the end.  What was her motivation, just a long con proving she was better than him?  I liked the full circle arc of the magician's character and the reminder of what the term "geek" meant back then.  Much different than today.

I read the books and I knew there was a movie, but I have never seen it. I think I would be disappointed.
I enjoyed it as a standalone movie. If you've read the books it will probably disappoint though. That's usually the case with any move made from a book.

Yeah I honestly think the positive vibes around it were related to: people really liking Odenkirk and wanting to support him and it being released in the heart of the pandemic when there weren't many new movies coming out. I watched it on HBO recently and kept waiting for some kind of interesting twist or something else to happen. Nope, just a really old guy going video game mode beating up tons of people. ZZZZzzzz

Don’t watch the Clint Eastwood flick, Cry Macho. I mean, unless you like plotless movies and subpar acting.
The kid was terrible. Couldn't they find someone with an authentic accent? And he was supposed to be a tough street kid? I fast forwarded through most of the second half.

Yeah I don't get the love for the movie. Even the bus scene - which was great action - didn't make much sense. I mean the russian guys were drunk and obnoxious but they weren't hurting anyone or even threatening to (if I'm remembering correctly) before Odenkirk went into action. Also any movie that relies on a super old man (Christopher Llyod) coming in and kicking ### and shooting up bad guys for comedic effect has run out of ideas.
