Have we done top suspense scenes from movies? (2 Viewers)

Some documentaries come to mind, like Free Solo and Man on Wire. I suppose know what is going to happen, but still felt suspenseful anyway. Hard to pick one specific scene from either though.

I think Man on Wire might have been one of the best films I’ve ever seen. So suspenseful and riveting. I won’t spoil it, but it’s almost unreal.

A quiet place, it was my first experience in semi packed theater where you could hear a pin drop during the movie because no one wanted to even chew popcorn or make any noise what so ever.

The end of Hitchcock’s Notorious

Fire cracker/Sister Christian scene in Boogie Nights

"
thats Cosmo, he's Chinese"

Or when Scottie shows Dirk his new car
This is a good one too. Pretty intense scene.

"Idiot, idiot, idiot, I'm a ****ing idiot"

I miss Philip Seymour Hoffman. One of the finest actors of our generation and Scottie might be my favorite role of his. Still laugh when he bought that ill fitting outfit to match Dirk: https://images.app.goo.gl/PW6tm9Msd4jV2fVa6

That's um, imported Italian nylon.

That entire montage is great. "It's funny you say that, we should be in a band" great payoff later with the band too. The rehearsal, trying to get the tapes from the studio. Classic stuff.

Agree about Hoffman. He nailed the Scottie J character. Phenomenal actor and i think this was among his best work.

Thomas Jane as Todd Parker was also incredible as a supporting character.

The Russian roulette scene in The Deer Hunter
That’s what I was coming to post. I was physically exhausted after that scene was over.

I’ll add the Usual Suspects opening scene builds suspenseful curiosity to find out what happened that led to body count on the boat.

Him, Hoffman and John C. Reilly killed those supporting roles and really made the movie imo. Pretty sure you've seen the uncut/extras but the coke scenes are top notch if you love those characters: https://youtu.be/1HOpxYoIjFo?si=vDSYC3fgBcUG3fOs&t=1209
No argument from me there. I mean the entire cast is at their very best. Reilly, Reynolds, Moore, Graham, Wahlberg, Cheadle, Hoffman, Guzman, Jane, Bookman from Seinfeld (i forget his name). That cast is like a 4 speed with 4,10 gears and 10 coats of competition orange, full ****ing race cams, whoa.......

Have you seen the original? It's like 30 minutes long, called The Dirk Diggler story. Paul Anderson did this with the original idea in high-school iirc. The Colonel actor (Robert Ridgley) plays Jack and has "the touch" studio session. I'm not saying it's good, but you'll recognize a ton of ideas that made the final cut.
