BP's list of 100 good or decent fantasy movies: we done (1 Viewer)

27. Hook

BP says: I really like this. Dustin Hoffman and Bob Hoskins are great in it. In fairness, I did rewatch this a few years ago and it wasn't quite as good as I remembered it so there could be some rose colored glasses involved but I think for 90's kids this is a very memorable and iconic movie. I enjoyed the concept of an older Peter Pan.

You missed it. I know that and Dark Crystal are considered classics or some such but just can't say I cared for them that much.

25. Pinocchio

BP says: Back when BP was much shorter than he is now, we got to watch this movie in school. So we are watching the movie and keep in mind we are all 6 and 7 year olds, so there's that part where he gets turned into a donkey and then some other character calls him a jackass. It's such a vivid memory of 40 kids just making the loudest audible gasp. And the teachers were just frantically assuring us "It's ok it's ok!" Anyways, good story. Would loved to have seen Del Torro's version but I don't have netflix.

24, Beauty and the Beast

BP says: La Belle et la Bête, which is the original French version and more in line with the original 1750's story, seems to come up often in other people's lists of top fantasy movies. Why? I'm not really sure. Say what you will about Disney but I think that back in the day they really put out some quality product and elevated the source material of their films. So yeah, I did like this better than the 1946 one.

22. Hellboy

BP says: Really really enjoyable film. Ron Pearlman is great. Doug Jones is great. I liked the sequel too but the 2019 reboot never happened. Mad props to Davis Hyde Pierce here.
Doug Jones' (Abe Sapien's) voice was dubbed by David Hyde Pierce, but Pierce refused a credit because he felt that Abe was entirely Doug's creation, and did not wish to detract from his performance.

21. The Mummy

BP says: It's a little campy but I think it works. It doesn't take itself too seriously and I think that sort of blend between Comedy and Horror (it's not listed as horror but I think you could say a few scenes are horrorish) works well. Very fun and enjoyable movie.

25. Pinocchio

BP says: Back when BP was much shorter than he is now, we got to watch this movie in school. So we are watching the movie and keep in mind we are all 6 and 7 year olds, so there's that part where he gets turned into a donkey and then some other character calls him a jackass. I’m old enough to remember a different Pinocchio movie version that we curious little boys tried to get a copy of.

5. Ghostbusters franchise

BP says: I really like them all, ok? I know 2 and Afterlife are not as good and I haven't seen Frozen Empire(although I heard it's bad but it can't be worse than this right?) In hindsight, it's maybe a little too high but I really do think it's iconic and it's something I find very enjoyable and have rewatched multiple times.

lm also just a little bias since I think this is just so hilarious.

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, ranks about 100 movies ahead of yours, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

he wasn't doing Christmas or animated Disney but we both share

3.The Princess Bride
4.Pan's Labyrinth
7.Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
9.What Dreams May Come
10. the wizard of oz
16.Big Fish
19.Edward Scissorhands

This last run were full of movies that I mostly don’t understand how they missed the original list

A number of these movies were on my list.

This is a good top 10 so far.
Oh ok, I thought he was only picking from what you left off. I didn’t remember the whole list or cross check.
Plus Scoresman did Sci-Fi and Fanatsy movies together while this is just Fanatsy movies and a couple of 22 minute Christmas specials.
