Just ran some heavy duty quantitative analysis and I'm sorry to report that for every one post or thread that regards the Boston Red Sox, their fans, and all pertinent encumbrances in a positive light, there are 3.4 posts or threads that kvetch, whine, and complain about said positive Red Sox post or thread. (Including the New England Patriots in this scale raises the anti-Boston post rate to 5.8:1.)
Personally, I don't give a #### what others think about the Red Sox or their fans. But for every [icon]/Wilked boast, there is a bottleneck of poor slobs from the midwest posting about how their teams spend only 17% of the Yankees and Red Sox. Then there's another long line waiting to post about some inane anecdotal experience they had with a Sox fan in 1983, thereby proving that all things Red Sox suck. And so on.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy mocking other teams and fans. That's part of being a fan, particularly here on a message board. But the obsession with bashing the Sox and their fans now produces a sympathy counter to the original intent. The research bears this out.
Some otherwise lucid posters mar their ipersona with their silly vendetta against the Red Sox. If this is meant to entertain us, I'd like to see some new material, a new slant, something-anything. I'm tired of the money angle and the unprovable "fans are all idiots" rant.
You know who you are.
