Redraft bye-week traps (1 Viewer)

Playing with mock drafts in the DRAFT DOMINATOR, certain bye-week pitfalls consistently pop up. Perhaps it's just the players and teams I'm most fond of, maybe I'm in the same boat as other fantasy freaks out there. Anyways, I just want to list the bye weeks (that stick out to me) with the players/teams most affected - and see if what bye-week pitfalls stick out to others.

Also, while drafting in redraft leagues, do most of you still pick the best player available regardless of bye-weeks (mailing in a loss during a particular week if inevitable)... or, do you draft with bye-weeks in mind trying to balance your team around them?

OK... so the biggest problem bye-week to me is (drum roll)

WEEK 6

Which teams have a week 6 bye?

1) Indy

2) Denver

3) San Francisco

4) Pittsburgh

5) Detroit

6) Buffalo

Fantasy studs and possible sleepers affected by this bye-week

Indy - Manning, Wayne, Harrison, Addai

Denver - T. Henry, Walker, Marshall, Cutler

S.F. - Gore, V. Davis, A. Smith, D. Jackson

Pittsburgh - Parker, Big Ben, Ward, S. Holmes

Detroit - R. Williams, Kitna, Calvin Johnson, Kevin Jones/Tatum Bell

Buffalo - Evans, Lynch, Losman

The number two problem bye-week is... (drum roll)

WEEK 8

Which teams have a week 8 bye?

1) KC

2) Seattle

3) Baltimore

4) Arizona

5) Dallas

6) Atlanta

Fantasy studs and possible sleepers affected by this bye-week

KC - LJ, Gonzalez

Seattle - Alexander, Hasselbeck, Branch, Hackett

Baltimore - McGahee, Mark Clayton, McNair, DST, Heap

Arizona - James, Boldin, Fitzgerald, Leinart

Dallas - TO, J. Jones, M. Barber III, Romo, Witten, Glenn

Atlanta - Vick, Dunn, Norwood, Crumpler

Anybody else see these as potential bunker busting weeks? Any other bye-weeks stick out to anyone else?

I actually like having a lot of players on bye at the same time. Sure, that game becomes an almost guaranteed loss, but it gives you a big advantage every other week because you are operating at full strength while everyone else is missing players.

I DEFINITELY don't draft based on bye weeks (either avoiding loading up on one week, or intentionally loading up on one week), because I really just don't think it matters. The one exception is my QB3, or WR5, or any other player that I'm drafting specifically to be a bye-week fill-in- obviously in that case, I don't draft someone who shares a bye with the guy he's supposed to be replacing. :goodposting:

Edit: In the only draft I've completed so far, I have Roethlisberger and Cutler as my QB1 and QB2, Kevin Jones/Tatum Bell as my RB3, and Lee Evans and Javon Walker as my WR1 and WR2. They all have a week 6 bye... and I'm okay with that.

For the most part, I agree with this. The one exception is when I play a division rival during a bye week, in which case I will be more flexible, but only within a tier. I think division games are important and don't like to take too big of a hit during those weeks, if possible...but only to a point.

Week 9 is looking like a killer for me. I am in a 10 team 10 player keeper and have Steven Jackson, Ronnie Brown and Cedric Benson all on bye that week. Right now I have Willie Parker @ Balt as my only keeper RB for that week. I will have to try to draft a decent filler for that week.

Could not agree more.

Obviously dynasty's are the most affected, but in a redraft, I have learned that players become starters overnight, so waiver wire moves often can overcome bye week problems. As has been stated earlier, avoid your planned bye week guy to have the same as the guy he's replacing. However, unless there aren't 2 guys you deem interchangeable at your current pick, take the guy you see as superior. As always injuries will change the face of your roster many times. Of course the ideal situation would be to have your bye week problem late, as opposed to in week 3. Another option obviously is trading.

I would keep an eye out for bye weeks but more as a casual observer. By obsessing over bye week conflicts you could potentially jeopardize dominating 12 weeks so as to not lose one week. You draft the best player available regardless of bye week. If you are on the fence and 50/50 on a certain selection, then go with the guy that does not have a bye week issue. Last time I checked, there are no bye weeks in the playoffs so your big guns will all be available when it counts the most.
