Reds are in last place, will they be dealing Griffey? (1 Viewer)

I heard he wants to stay, but he would accept a trade to the right situation.

Next season, he gets $16 million or the Reds can buy him out for $4 million. There is no way he will be in a Reds uniform next season.

I figured they would deal him before his last year, just wasn't sure if he wanted to leave

"The right situation" is someone agreeing to pay the $16M next season.Seattle has been mentioned a lot, and they seem like the likeliest fit. They also seem to have enough money to trot out their old show pony for one last rodeo.

The first part is exactly why I don't see this happening. I think the Reds would deal him for nothing if someone would take on his salary for this year. Griffey would accept if they picked up for next year. Basically, I think hes up for grabs if anyone will put up the money for both years. Doubt anyone will though and I don't see the Reds picking up part of the money in a trade.

There's a slight chance they might pony up $4M, since that's what they'd be buying him out for anyway. For that they'd probably ask for a usable spare part in return (a Jerry Hairston type).
