Any Skins homers have any new nuggets on Keiland Williams?

I was just wondering b/c the Skins OL looked vastly improved with the addition of their monsterous 1st round pick LT Trent Williams and they certainly look improved with McNabb so I think there must be potential there for a Shanny-style no-name 3rd string RB to bust out with 1,500 yards......and that could be Keiland Williams.....maybe???

Idk b/c Portis definitely offers some veteran leadership via his great blitz pickup / pass protection but he doesn't offer much explosion anymore as a RB. And the rotting carcas of Larry Johnson certainly isn't worth many carries.

And that would leave Keiland Williams...

I think you are seriously underestimating Portis. He is still a very explosive RB, and played an excellent NFL game. I think you are making the mistake of confusing FF production with NFL production. Portis is Shanny's RB, and you will see he has plenty left in the tank IMO.

Wrt redrafts, Keiland Williams has zero value right now.

And there is no RBBC in Washington. Portis is the man. The only time he will come out of the game is to give him a breather.

This has all been covered in other threads, and nothing's changed after one week other than confirmation that Williams has little value in the short term without injuries to Portis. LJ might get replaced by Williams as Portis' backup, but we'll have to see.

I gave Portis his props for his great pass protection but sorry - just not seeing the explosiveness from when he was young. And camp reports had Shanny down on Portis and up on LJ. But maybe you guys are right - nothing to see here?

Was just looking for a RB sleeper for an extra roster spot I've got available.

Guess I'll go with my other idea - Ryan Mathews' backup Mike Tolbert. "The Tolbert Report" looks beastly and Mathews has quite an extensive injury history himself looking back to his NCAA career.

The OL is still gelling. They were even, if you can believe it, rotating both the LG (Dockery/Williams) and the RT (Williams/Heyer) by design during the game. Dallas has an excellent defense. You'll notice during the game that Portis and the running game started to create/find cutback lanes and became more effective. He may not be explosive the way he was 6-7 years ago, but he's a guy who I expect to be well over 4 ypc by the end of the year, and the fact that he's clearly the superior third down back as the best pass blocking feature back in the league means that he's not coming out of the game very often.

Yeah, the camp stuff was just Shanny trying to motivate Portis, but actually Portis is an entirely different person than when he was with Shanny in DEN. As far as not looking like he did 6-7 years ago, then he was the most explosive back in the league, he's not anymore, but that doesn't mean he's not explosive... heck, most RBs hope they could be as explosive as Portis was when he was young.Someone else commented on the OL, and they're right. Give it another week or two, and you'll be saying how explosive and young Portis looks again ;)

As for your "Tolbert Report" - let's see the kid do something worthy of a nickname first...

 I'll add that I expect the line to get better and better each week at the ZBS. I didn;t draft Portis in either redraft league, but I am targeting him now and glad I have him on a dynasty bench now that Grant is hurt.

Ah the differences in fantasy and reality. Fantasy owners read his stat line yesterday morning and proceeded to blog about how bad he sucked and pondered who he'll be splitting carries with. Meanwhile the coaching staff was watching the game film and telling him what a hell of a game he played. Make no mistake about it, the only reason Donovan McNabb is walking upright today is because of #26.

As far as the running goes, Sebowski hit the nail on the head, the OL isn't quite there just yet. Portis was making his one cut, but the cut back lanes just weren't there. There appeared to be a few blown blocking assignments and it seemed like their timing and positioning was a bit off, like maybe they're thinking a bit too much about their assignments. Let's not forget that they were running against a 3-4 too, a pretty good one at that, which is a little better suited to counter the zone blocking scheme. When that OL starts to gel, and they should since there's plenty of talent there, look out. Speaking of which, that new tackle of theirs, OMG he's a man! That dude's a powerhouse and can move. Who knows if Portis can stay healthy, but I'd be patient with him. This could turn into a pretty good running team.
