Reggie Bush may be out for the year (1 Viewer)

Before anyone wonders, Pierre Thomas is not the likely play here.

Go with Stecker - he's played more and Pierre Thomas has a bruised kidney that had him inactive last week.

Reggie Bush-RB-Saints Dec. 7 - 4:02 pm et

The Associated Press reports that Reggie Bush's injury isn't expected to require surgery.

The Saints are publicly hopeful Bush will play Monday, although that could be gamesmanship. The Bush/Aaron Stecker combo isn't worth waiting for Monday night if you have decent options this week. We would hold on to Bush in all leagues until the story clears up.

Don't start speculating and don't panic, it's an easy decision.

Remember the PCL injuries that have already healed this year and how it affected that player.

Drop Bush for Stecker now if you still can, so at least you'll have a starting option.

Anybody think that Stecker could actually put up better fantasy numbers than Bush since he will probably get more carries per game for a higher ypc and might get all of Bush's receptions as well?

I actually doubt that Stecker will get all of Bush's receptions since the offense will probably adjust away from Bush's strengths and weaknesses and run plays that fit Steckers strengths and weaknesses instead.

I've read that Stecker is an decent runner and a good receiver but I just assume that he's not as good a receiver as Bush.

Stecker will probably be more effective in short yardage situations as well so even though it sounds crazy I'm thinking that Stecker is probably an upgrade from Bush's fantasy numbers.

Bush will never carry the ball 200 times in a year in the NFL.

a) He sucks at running the ball

b) He can't physically do it
I'm on record as saying (and adamantly defending the opinion) that Bush is likely to be marked as "Injury Prone" (as overused and erroneous as the term is) by the end of the season (before Deuce went down even).... so unfortunately, I agree w/ you wholeheartedly.

Reggie Bush-RB-Saints Dec. 7 - 3:10 pm et Saints coach Sean Payton confirmed Friday that Reggie Bush has a torn PCL in his left knee, but is hopeful Bush can play on Monday night."If you just study the history of PCL injuries, I know they vary with each player, but it is an injury that you come back from," Payton said. "We'll monitor where he's at." Bush practiced without restrictions on Thursday, but felt sore on Friday and that led to an MRI which revealed the damage. The odds still seem heavily against Bush playing versus the Falcons.Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune
It is only a torn PCL?? He should be fine!

He's not better physically pertaining to this injury than he was 3 weeks ago - and his results have been piss poor. So I disagree that he will be fine as a producer.

Each game I am more and more convinced that Reggie Bush is much closer to an Eric Metcalf than a future star RB.

There is another thread specifically for you to get your jollies bashing Reggie Bush's skills as a running back. This thread is about the injury, no need to pollute it. Thanks.

Bush has been playing hurt for a while. He needs to hang it up for the season if he is hurt bad. I'd rather have him next season when Deuce gets back and he can return to his true roll of x-factor. Let Thomas and Stecker go the rest of the way. Even if the Saints win the rest of their games and make the playoffs they will not make it far with the injurys on offense and that secondary.

No and especially if they lose one more game and eliminate themselves from the playoffs. Plus the Saints offensive line is good at one thing- Pass protection. They suck at run blocking. McCallister and Bush's numbers suffered this year because there were no holes. Dont ask me why because these guys did well blocking last year.

Saints running game gets an upgrade.
Running game slight upgrade ... RB receiving slight downgrade (Stecker is a good receiver out of the backfield) ... overall break even.Stecker should put up about the same points as Bush only without the hype.

Man RB's are just getting crushed this year. According to my records there are only 24 RB's who played in all 12 of the first games:Adrian Peterson CHIBrian LeonardClinton PortisDeAngelo WilliamsDeShaun FosterEarnest GrahamEdgerrin JamesFred TaylorJulius JonesJustin FargasKenton KeithKevin FaulkLaDainian TomlinsonLadell BettsLenDale WhiteMarion BarberMaurice DrewMusa SmithReggie BushReuben DroughnsThomas JonesWarrick DunnWillie ParkerWillis McGahee
you have records

So my league settings lock rosters at the start of the first game of the week. As of game time on Thursday, Bush was a go. Now he is very doubtful, and there is nothing I can do about it. He is in my RB2 position, and he probably won't play.

I posted a league message a few weeks ago about this being a stupid rule, and now I'm getting burned by it.

What is the general consensus regarding entire rosters locking at the start of the first game? Personally I think it sucks. and I would think it sucks even if I were not a Bush owner.

And yes, I know...

I think your league should definitely have that rule changed.

With these as my starters...

Portis

K. Jones

K. Smith (flex)

would you drop any of these guys for Stecker?

K. Watson (leaning that way but guy I might play in round 2 has Rudi...im only holding KW to keep him from that guy in case he wins and I play him next week)

Norwood (I know, I know)

Fred Jackson

Droughns.

They weren't much better run blocking last year either, they were just able to mask it better with their gimmicky offense keeping defenses off balance, and teams' (unnecessary) fear of Bush leaving other lanes open.I said all offseason that this group is one of the worst run-blocking lines in the league, and that if their offense wasn't fooling people any more they were going to be exposed for it, which they have been.

Great analogy. However, he better be as durable as Metcalf. The Browns mishandled his talent for years. Bush would not last more than a few years getting sent between the tackles that many times.

These were on Rotoworld:

Reggie Bush-RB-Saints Dec. 7 - 9:25 pm et A league source tells Profootballtalk.com that Reggie Bush believes he tore his PCL over a month ago and won't play again this year. Then maybe he should've had the MRI when he first thought he got hurt. Bush wasn't shaking defenders consistently early in the season, so if he was playing through a torn PCL the last four weeks, few would've noticed.Source: Profootballtalk.com
Reggie Bush-RB-Saints Dec. 7 - 7:24 pm et FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports Reggie Bush (torn PCL) will not play Monday night against the Falcons. It appears that coach Sean Payton's "hopeful" outlook for Bush's chances of playing this week was gamesmanship. However, Glazer adds that reports Bush is lost for the season are premature. He'll head to Alabama Monday for a second opinion on the knee and could return before Week 17.Source: FOXSports.com

Reggie only seems like a bad back cuz the run scheme, run blocking scheme sux in new orleans. Look at Justin Fargas. No one ever talked about him cuz he wasn't that good. This year the Raiders brought in the zone blocking scheme and fargas is having a breakout season and didn't even start the first half of the year. Bush needs to be on another team.

Bush out Monday, will get 2nd opinion

Jay Glazer

FOXSports.com, Updated 13 hours ago

Reggie Bush is out for Monday night's NFC South clash with the Atlanta Falcons with a partially torn posterior cruciate ligament, FOXSports.com has learned. While Bush's season may be in jeopardy, reports that Bush's season is over are premature.

"We have no way of possible knowing how long he's going to miss until after he meets with Dr. (James) Andrews on Monday," Saints coach Sean Payton said. "It's a PCL. Some guys miss two weeks. Some guys miss longer. But there's no way for us to know right now because we don't know what the follow-up opinion is."

Bush will fly to Birmingham to see Andrews on Monday, and the team will wait until then to make a determination. Andrews is one of the most well-regarded orthopaedic surgeons in the country.

Often times, players and teams will elect not to operate on the PCL, even when completely torn.

Bush practiced Thursday and did not indicate he was having any trouble when he spoke to reporters after practice. He became sore that evening and the team ordered an MRI, which indicated a tear in his posterior cruciate ligament, an injury which varies in severity.

The injury is the latest setback for Bush, who took over as the Saints' featured running back after Deuce McAllister's season-ending knee injury in Week 3.

Bush has scored six touchdowns with 581 yards rushing and 417 yards receiving. His longest run so far has been 22 yards and his longest reception 25 yards. He has 10 dropped passes and has fumbled eight times, though his team has recovered all but three of those.

Anybody else just catch the NFL Network NOW update?

Just heard word for word "Adam Schefter is reporting that Bush will miss the rest of the year". I know it's been speculated, but has this been confirmed?

I caught that as well. But, I haven't seen in print yet....could be a matter of time. But as a Bush owner, you have to hold onto hope until you have a confirmation. I was able to grab Stecker and have the advantage of a first round bye. Worst case scenario for me would be Bush being out for multiple weeks, and have the Saints backfield turn into a 2-3 headed monster. I would prefer not to cut someone with value for Pierre Thomas, but am starting to give it some thought. Keep hope alive.

Per a headline on wwltv.com (I'm guessing it came from today's press conference)...

Head coach Sean Payton says that Reggie Bush could play this Sunday. He will be evaluated on Wednesday, but the rehab is going well.

Saw that too, is it worth picking him back up or are we looking at limited carries at best?

I've got Bush and Stecker and really hope that Reggie just sits out another week unless he's near 100 percent. Steckie's been a big help moving the chains as the Saints have seen that slow and steady wins the race.

Stecker has given the Saints their two best rushing performances of the year, what's the rush to bring Bush back unless he is 100%.

I base my comment on (a) the original thinking that Bush might be able to play in week 17 and (b) seeing how Payton has handled things over the past 2 years, specifically how he divulges injury/player status information: this is nothing more than the Saints giving the Eagles something else to have to gameplan for. And the potential of Bush playing does do that.

exactly. it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they reverted to a similar gameplan that was in plce for deuce and reggie. stecker has shown his effectivess and utility. reggie can return to his more nebulous niche role that proved effective last season.
