Relationship Argument-Cats (1 Viewer)

I've thought about this thread a bit and I'd like to ask the cat people a few questions.

Why are cats more valuable than cows, pigs or chickens?

Why is it bad for an animal to be put to sleep after several years of the good life with a loving family?

Why are no kill shelters considered less humane than kill shelters?

Why does everyone have to think about cats the same way you do or else they are evil?

All I know is that the subjects of cats is apparently more sensitive than several other topics I consider about 1 billion times more important. It is one of the most confusing things I've run across on this board.

In no way should anyone be angry with the OP and be saying he shouldn't own a pet again. If you do, you should rethink your priorities and what is actually important in life. Because he did right by this cat.
Not a single answer to any of these questions, yet somehow me being a Christian has become relevant to the discussion.Perhaps you people realize how crazy it really is?

I'd like a serious answer from anyone to the four questions I posted. My faith in God has nothing to do with this, so try to stay on point.
Why answer a dbag who clearly has no real interest in the questions, and just wants to stir things up in a very un-Christianlike manner.
Stir things up? Are we in the same thread? The hostility toward the OP and his wife and family is much worse than anything I've posted. Yet I'm the dbag, huh? Couldn't be because my opinion is different than yours, right? But it's ok for people to say my life and the OPs wife and family are less valuable than a cats, yet I'm not being Christ-like?

Got it.

1- valuable? as pets, they've valued more than the others you mentioned for their sociability towards humans. for meat... not as much.

2- real question? Imagine euthynizing uncle Bob... as a healthy 40yo because your wife's family doesn't like him. Ok if he's dying painfully from something horrible- but healthy?

3- I dunno.

4- Seems to me the cat people don't care what you think, unless you start saying mean #### about cats. Me... I like cats. I like dogs too. Animals in general. It doesn't have to be one or the other and I don't give a #### whether people like cats or not. But coming into a thread about cats and ####ting on them... for me, that's the actions of a mean-spirited #######.

^^^^^^^^

and

3- In no kill shelters the animal has a chance at being adopted and going into a good home. Kill shelters and he's wearing a number and time is ticking or else.

but his question was why are no-kill shelters LESS humane than kill shelters. They aren't, so I have no idea how to answer the question.

Yeah but when you are considering where to leave your beloved pet, and have no choice but to a shelter, the question becomes which type is more humane. No-kill obviously, unless you don't care if your beloved pet has a number on his back. First choice when having to surrender is to a good home. Next is to a rescue as that is in someone's home, not a cage. Last choice is a shelter.

Interesting thread. The OP seems to have put a lot of effort into doing the best thing possible for his cat. His wife, not so much and deserves the ridicule she's getting.

I haven't been in threads where Jayrod has apparently stirred the pot like what's been mentioned, but his comments on the last page were pretty tame, not really deserving of some of the posts that were made.

Just my opinion. Carry on.

I think the disconnect here is that the cats in question - and cats in general in our society - are not more valuable, but rather valued for companionship rather than food. As a result, they should be treated commensurately with their roles. A pet chicken, cow, or pig should also be treated that way, as opposed to an animal raised to be valued for its meat.

See now this is a logical, well thought out response.

Thank you, Henry.

Livestock should be treated just as humanely as pets. That's a huge disconnect in our society. Hopefully these self-professed animal lovers don't eat mass-produced meat.

Just as humanely isn't the same as being treated the same, though. And I agree that we should all be getting our meats from local, well fed and exercised sources, but plenty of people can't afford to do that.
