Replacing Owners (keeper league) (1 Viewer)

We have to replace 2 owners this season that have been with us for several years. Our league is a keeper league (keep 4 every season).

How do most of you allow newbies in - pick up an existing team or drop all old teams and newbies start from scratch?

What is more fair to the new guys and to the old guys?

Thanks

You have to make the offer to join worthwhile. What's the incentive to pick up a vacant team when everyone else has 4 studs? It's hard enough selling a bad team let alone a team with nobody. The league is the one in a bind here, unless you've got guys lined up dying to get into your league.

We use a deposit system. All owners put $25 toward a deposit towards next year. If one drops, that team is $25 cheaper for an incoming owner. If they are really bad, the commish has waived half of the first year fee to the new owner.

I run a keep four and haven't had an issue of replacing owners. It’s a local league and thus a social league. I've had more of an issue of other owners wanting to trade or buy one of the vacated teams. If the team sucks that means they will probably be able to draft early and be able to rebuild if they are any good at drafting. I recommend a straight draft instead of a snake draft. It helps a rebuilding team to bounce back a little quicker.

Do like they do in Zealots, have a replacement owner draft, have the new teams pick their keepers from the available players on the abandoned teams. It gives them a sense of ownership as they were allowed to draft their own players.

We always just have someone take over one of the existing teams. It's very rarely caused an issue.

Or, something that was just implemented in our league, let the vet owners blind bid on the vacant team(s) with the proceeds going into the payoff pot. Then find new owners for the remaining team(s).
