Superflex newbie - need help (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone - our 25 year old 1 QB league is moving to superflex this year.

12 team PPR. 4 points per passing TD, -2 per int

We're an auction keeper league (no qb keepers for this year) with $200 budget.

Need some advice on qb drafting strategy. What percent should I look to spend on QB's?

Since this is new to most of us in the league, I'm guessing there could be some value in QB. Do I try and pounce on two top 10 guys?

Any other advice?

Thanks!

Auctions leagues are very league dependent in terms of how the auction is going to go. That being said, when my league switched to superflex, QB prices were slightly inflated the first year. Expect to spend $60+ on the top 3ish QBs, especially those with rushing upside (Hurts, Allen, Jackson). So getting two top 10 guys might be tough and while it would give you an edge in QB you'll probably be weak in WR or RB. I suggest your first nomination be a top 5ish QB who you don't want to see how much they go for and react from there. Typically, in any auction draft, I spend about 40-50% of my budget on my top two guys.

Also expect pretty much every starting QB to be drafted, even if it's for 1$. The waiver wire will be very thin at QB as opposed to other positions.

4 pts per passing td and minus 2 for an interception sure lessons their value, even in SF. I wouldn’t go hog crazy.

Superflex turns QB into the most valuable position. I would expect the top QBs to be on par or higher price-wise with the top RBs/WRs. If they are not and they are lower, pounce on that value.

Like any auction, see how it goes in the beginning. Personally, with 4 point TDs, I would probably want to target an elite running QB, and pair it with a high upside value option later once you see how prices pan out. Try to avoid high injury risk guys and also do your best to get a third startable QB as well. The waiver wire for QBs will be dryer than... ok I better not make that joke.

I found the following spreadsheet on reddit that might help you. It looks reasonable.

Also, I haven't tried an auction there, but you should be able to go set up a mock with your league info and it will approximate the pricing for you.

you did say no QB keepers this year. I assume there will be QB keepers in future years?

if there is, the strategy may need to change depending on your keeper rules. in some leagues you add $ to the amount you initially paid for a player each year (which is the amount you give up to keep the player) until the player is no longer affordable. in others there are a specified number of keepers with no dollar values attached. so the specific rules WILL affect your decisions.

if you can keep 3 (a common number) with no dollar value consideration, your best bet is to spend whatever it takes to get the 2 best, young QB's you can so you can keep them a long time.

if there are dollar values involved in keeping, you may want to seek out lesser priced QB who you think could blossom into a better player in the long term. then the cost to keep is actually quite reasonable for a long time for that good player and will allow you to spend money elsewhere for a long time.

see where I am coming from?

Does anyone know of site that shows results from real auction drafts? Plenty of sites give their AAV but looking for individual draft results.
I was part of a $200 SuperFlex auction Saturday. I can share the QB values when I get a chance. We did drop from 12 to 10 teams this year though due to a few last minute drop outs. But added another flex. So not sure how helpful the QB auction values will be for you.

Top QBs in my SF, 4pt passing TD, 12 teams were (200$ budget):

Hurts and Allen both at 56$
Lamar and Mahomes both at 50$
Richardson at 43$
Dak 31$
Caleb and Jayden both at 29$

There were a few QBs kept (we can keep 1 player) so if you're wondering where guys like Kyler or Stroud are, they were kept for below market value.

Sure please share when you get a chance. Any data point is helpful. Thanks!

This is good feedback and yes, we can keep QB's in future years with $ add ons ($5 for year 2, $15 for year 3). So would imagine Daniels, Caleb Williams, and even Nix would go higher than their AAV based on future keeper possibilities.

Somehow the top row got cut off. Left column is round/pick they were proposed in auction... I figured that was helpful too. Right column is value. $200 budget in this league. Ten team.

QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, FlexRB/WR/TE, Flex WR/TE, Superflex, Defense.

We joked that $40 seemed to be the magic number if you wanted your guy.

Minshew and Russel Wilson still out on the wire... Minshew had not been named starter when we drafted. I assume he will be grabbed tonight in FAAB when waiver run.

Weird. It's someone else's spreadsheet and not on my account. I was able to open it the other day,.

QB20383RB20213WR20247

This is the scoring history from last year. We do some crazy stuff in this superflex like giving QBs .1 per passing yard which skews the scoring A LOT. RBs and WRs get bonus points for 40+ and 50+ scoring TDs...so WRs. I've got the 7th pick and I'm sure there will be 5 or 6 QBs taken before me. If that's the case I'm thinking of going Hill or Lamb. WRs have a slight edge in scoring.

You need to figure out how QB's stack up in scoring compared to other positions. Most people hear SF and automatically think QB's are the end all be all and treat it like a 2 QB league. However, if your league scoring doesn't match that you can exploit that inconsistency to your advantage.

I start by comparing last year's scoring across positions. How many QB's in the top 10/20/starting quantity/etc. I also compare ppg slots as well as season long doesn't always show the whole picture.

If you see 20 QB's in the top 30 scorers you know you gotta get two solid QB's to compete. However if there are 7 QB's, 5 RB, 15 WR and 3 TE then you may not need to play a QB in the SF spot and can shift focus to WR and get bargains.

SF does not necessarily mean QB value sky rockets. It all depends on your scoring system.
