Report claims Gronk could be traded (1 Viewer)

It's basically wild speculation. It's someone trying to connect the dots and then conclude that since we don't really know what (if anything) is going on, he could be traded.

That being said, that likely applies to a good portion of the league. A team would consider trading just about anybody if another franchise offered enough.

This to me strikes me as the media trying to create news, not report news.

I could easily see Gronk being traded...not saying it will happen or that I want it to happen but if the Pats could get what they considered a fair return (if that is possible) I think they have to consider it...I think the end is getting close for Gronk and if you are gonna deal him this is the time to do it...

How much does someone give up for a cat who will retire in a year or 2 max?
That's the million dollar question...I think it depends on how much winning now means to a franchise (and assuming you get at least 2 years out of him)...he could put a team over the top...would it be worth it to LA to give the #23 (or some other type of package) to add Gronk...putting him on that offense would be a beyond big time addition and he would definitely fit in perfectly in LA...would be a huge favorite there...probably not gonna happen but it does make for some good message board discussion...

Strange media story because it's based on the media not being aware if Gronk has told NE of his plans. Kraft mentioned Gronk has been sneaking in the facility to workout and said he'd like to come back as Gronk. Gronk is doubling his salary in 2018, 4 million to 8 million and in 2019 to 9 million. BB said he'll go by his conversations with the player and not what's in the media.

Wasn't aware he was paid so little. Compare to some of the salaries these WRs have been getting, seems like chump change.

10.9 million against the cap is chump change? 8 million plus amortization of upfront money he was given when he signed the contract. Not bad.

He will cost NE 4 million in dead cap if he is traded.

It would take two seconds for this story to end...all Gronk has to do is say I am in (or out)...he has not done that and he definitely knows by doing that he has created a story...he is a real smart guy, he knows how the Boston media market and fans operate...the speculation now becomes is he doing it over legit injury concerns, money or wanting out of New England...until he commits all 3 angles will be up for discussion...

The world doesn't revolve around the media. If you don't tell us what's going on we'll make up stories? BB and Kraft denied the stories written about them but the phony stories continue. BB has been the same for a long time and the media should know it. Ask a football question he'll answer it. Ask a personnel question or a TMZ type question and he won't. He never burns his players. Gronk doesn't have to do anything until team activities start. Kraft already fell on his sword for the sake of the NE fans.

Gronk will have the fourth highest cap hit on NE, Brady 22 million, Gilmore 12.5 million, McCourty 11.9 then Gronk 10.9 million.

Yes...that is exactly what will happen...if you don't think that is the case than you do not understand the Boston media market...they will continue to churn out rumor and innuendo...now that doesn't mean the Pats have to care because BB has pretty much perfected the art of keeping the noise out...he could care less what the media says or thinks which is a huge asset to the franchise...that being said this is going to be a big story until there is resolution and my hope as a fan is it does not travel the path of being a distraction because I love Gronk...but if it does I have zero doubts BB will figure something out...that's what he does...

He doesn't give two ####s about media stories.  Whatever he says someone else is going to come in and twist or misconstrue of flat out make stuff up (sources say...).  Screw them.

Seems very unlikely to be traded. The Pats offense has been much better with Gronk on the field vs. in the games he missed, and his contract is very reasonable for someone who's a strong candidate for most valuable non-QB in the NFL.

Kirk of K&C the #1 morning show explained it, don't be boring, be on the edge, go against the grain basically, con the audience and stir up the flock. That's what the Boston media market eats up. It has little to do what really is going on. The media has too much time to fill.

I think that contract might be the issue right now, if there is an issue.

I don’t see it happening, but I guess you never know..

Chances growing that Gronk gets traded
This is intriguing to me not just because I hate NE but I also have Gronk in the keeper league I'm in. I think he's a great player one of the top TE in this decade but one has to wonder how much of that production was do to Brady and NE System as well. This isn't a knock on Gronk per say. Love the guy. Only NE player I ever really rooted for success wise besides my UF guys on the team. I doubt he's traded this year but I could see it after next season possible. Dream Scenario is Gronk and Ertz together but I know Roseman is fairly smart plus we just don't have the realistic assets to get him here. And would BB and CO really trade with the team who just beat them in SB and make them even better?

Now it's another evil BB story from Darlington. .

Although New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is reportedly expected to return to his club for the 2018 season after considering retirement, a new report says things have been tense between the 28-year-old and his head coach.

There has been friction between Gronkowski and Bill Belichick, along with other members of the Patriots this offseason, as the head coach is questioning whether his tight end is "all in" with the team, sources told ESPN's Jeff Darlington.

Gronkowski reportedly cited the large physical and mental toll of playing the position and role the Patriots have him in as reasons for retirement consideration. Coming back to the team, Gronkowski is aware he will be expected to fill the same role.

Darlington adds that the tension could ease throughout the offseason if Belichick feels Gronkowski is showing a commitment to football.

One caveat to the report is that Gronkowski is "pretty certain" he will return for his ninth season as long as Tom Brady is also back, which is expected to be the case.

You own Gronk and think it a dream scenario for him to share the ball with Ertz? I'm not following that at all.

Settle down there, Chowdahead.

Gotta love the off-season.

ETA:  Especially when someone says Gronk "is a real smart guy".

Do you know that he isn’t? He plays the goofy fun loving “Gronk” well but I have read he’s actaully a very sharp/shrewd guy.

Do you know that he hasn’t touched one dime of his NFL salary to date - and lives off the interest/investments and endorsement money?

I guess you might be right.  Kind of like Terry Bradshaw isn't the "all shucks" dummy he was thought to be.

I've heard that before, but can that really be true? I would think the endorsement money wasn't rolling in from day 1.

Wondered the same thing.  Was not a household name when drafted, family seems to fall somewhere in middle class range. Don't see a plausible scenario where he did not need to break into his first paycheck/bonus at least.  He might have replenished it or just used bonus and not weekly game check, but I call BS on this story I keep hearing that he's never spent any of his pay from Patriots.

I suppose that could be “urban legend” but I’ve read it a few times. The argument that he couldn’t have done that from the start does make sense though. He was a second round pick so he did make some decent money from his first contract but not sure his bonus was big enough to just live off the interest.

I guess the main point though is that he has been wise with his money and has not blew through it like many players and he isn’t the partying it away like some may assume.

How many players do the same thing? Here's another one.

"Marshawn Lynch has a lot of money," Rapoport said. "He hasn't spent a dime of his actual playing money ... ever."

Presumably, Lynch has been living the last nine years off of endorsements and other business ventures. Lynch is estimated to earn about $5 million per year through endorsement deals with Nike, Pepsi, Skittles, Progressive, and Activision, according to Forbes.

Lynch, the 12th pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, signed a modest — by today's standards — five-year, $19 million rookie contract with the Buffalo Bills. He took home roughly $14 million from that contract, during which he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks. Lynch really cashed in then, signing a four-year, $30 million extension with the Seahawks prior to the 2012 season, and he just finished the first year of a two-year, $24 million contract, bringing his career earnings on the field to $49.7 million.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has been saving like a pro during his five seasons in the National Football League—at least according to his new book, It’s Good to Be Gronk.

The football star claims he has been spending only his endorsement money, not his NFL salary, and avoids making big-ticket purchases.

“To this day, I still haven’t touched one dime of my signing bonus or NFL contract money. I live off my marketing money and haven’t blown it on any big-money expensive cars, expensive jewelry or tattoos and still wear my favorite pair of jeans from high school,” Gronkowski writes in an excerpt of the book published Monday on Sports Illustrated‘s MMQB blog.

He has money because he shows up for interviews so he doesn't get fined :)

He still fits into his jeans from high school? I still wear a couple of pairs from then but I'm also not an NFL player lol.

I'm an Eagles fan. Should've stated that to being with hence a dream scenario. Fantasy wise it doesn't help but personal reasons I'd love it. Hope that makes more sense

This is true. I have a cousin who lives up in Boston who works for Lockheed Martin. His company had an event somewhere that Gronk was and met him. The dude is very smart. He's one of those people that plays around like some dumb jock but when you get a chance to actually talk to the guy he's incredible down to earth and very intelligent.

A lot of guys have become incredible smart with their money investing and stuff in the right circumstances. The biggest problem I think is many of these guys feel the need to help one of their buddies out and it turns into them mooching off them and getting the expensive cars etc. I think a lot of guys go into the NFL not realizing their contracts aren't fully gauranteed and you can spend $10M in a heartbeat.

I know for a fact that Gronk brings "to go" Tupperware to the daily spreads the team has at practice during the season.  So the guy isn't paying ANYTHING for food.

Bingo...it is common knowledge locally that while he looks the part of the football meathead he's a bright guy who doesn't big time people...

Maybe this sounds like bs and take this for what it's worth but friend of mine met a coach for the Pats a few years ago and said two of the guys on the team who learned the plays the fastest were Gronk and Aaron Hernandez.

Yeah, he's probably very smart but likes to come off as a dumb jock.
I think it's a combo of that is his personality and the fact he knows he is creating a brand...he has made himself into one of the more marketable athletes...

My co workers son actually is one of the Eagles assistant coaches. he helps our Secondary coach Corey Udlin. MY co workers son is from the Philly area and was at NH the last year Chip Kelly was the HC. He went to grad school at Mizzou and went in to interview for the chiefs the year Andy Reid was hired and got the job there. Pederson too him if he got the Eagles Job he'd take him to Philly with him and promoted him to assistant Secondary Coach and I think QC. He worked with Everrett Thomas I believe the name is HoF DB for KC in their secondary. Anyway my co worker met Gronk at the SB and was very surprised how great he was. Very polite and kind and really didn't act like big time like some of the players she's met from her son. I follow wrestling too and have a friend who made it into WWE who met Gronk when he's done some work for WWE especially at Mania a like 2 yrs ago. Heard similar about Gronk. I think its funny how people think he's some football meathead and don't realize just how smart he actually is.
