Rumors and reports of in-limbo Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb’s interest in the Vikings have been plentiful this offseason. But to this point, there had been no indications that the interest was mutual.

On Monday, the Washington Post cited two people with knowledge of the situation to report that the Vikings are “indeed” one of the teams interested in McNabb.

There’s more.

According to Mike Jones of the Post, one league source says no teams are willing to shell out substantial compensation for McNabb because the Redskins “already tipped their hand” that the 34-year-old quarterback has no future in Washington. McNabb is due a whopping $10 million, non-guaranteed bonus if he’s on the Redskins’ roster the day after the first regular season game.

He’d obviously have to rework his contract to make any trade conceivable. If McNabb refuses to restructure, he’ll almost certainly be released.

All of these reports and points are moot, of course, until the lockout ends. There’s a transaction freeze in the NFL.

But if the Vikings emerge from next week’s draft without a quarterback they deem capable of starting Week One, McNabb appears to be on their list of stopgap targets.

I hope the Vikes don't pursue McNabb, who IMHO is nothing but an overpaid check casher at this point in his career. No leadership, emotion, passion or work ethic. Reid trading him to a division rival who gave up on him by midseason tells me all I need to know. He's not an answer and probably not even a stop gap.

I have a strong hunch Vince Young will be on the Vikings when the dust settles. Despite his lack of maturity I'd welcome it.

I'd rather have Young than McNabb too if I were Vikings fan but I have a hunch Young will be with the Titans now that Fish is gone.

The QB situation with so many teams desperate at that position to me is the most interesting discussion regarding the draft being ahead of free agency.

The Vikes still have Webb and T Jackson, but most would consider them without a QB and unless they at least draft someone, there will be additional pressure during free agency to, pardon the pun, Nab one.

This topic will continue to be interesting through the draft and beyond until free agency is opened up.

I think it's awfully unlikely Young returns to the Titans. GM Reinfeldt confirmed the Fisher firing had no effect on Young being out, new head coach Munchak reconfirmed, and the Titans took down a large photo of Young that had been applied to the wall at LP field. I know anything is possible, but really hard to see that situation turning around. With Young's former QB coach in Minnesota, it seems like as good a spot as any for him to land. If it happens, I'm hoping Leslie Frazier can get through to him in a way Fisher never could, or wanted to. Say what people will about Young- the guy proved he can win games.

Interesting to me how the public perception of McNabb has changed. In less then a year, its gone from being one of the worst trades in NFL history (didn't Brian Urlacher call it that?) to him being an overpaid check casher who is less desirable then VYoung. No one knew McNabb better then Andy Reid.

Not sure why People continue to talk like TJax is an option when he not even tendered by the Vikings. The only two QBs that are under contract are Joe Webb and Rhett Bomar.

The funny thing is if you go back and read Rhett Bomar's scouting report and then compared to this year's QB prospects. He is most similar to Jake Locker. Of course, Bomar does have the athletic ability of Locker but it makes me think that Locker will be the Vikings target after all (contrary to what I was saying last week :bag: )

At this point in his career, I don't see McNabb as anything more than a vet backup. I hope the Vikings don't pin all their hopes on him. I would rather have Young, Orton, or Tebow than McNabb--at least as my starter this season.

Yeah, I'd prefer Orton as well, but Tebow? I'm not seeing it for this vet laden team, considering what you'd have to give up and still not have a seasoned QB for 2011. New OC Musgrave is a wild card, and I'm sure he'll have a lot of say in who is capable of running his offense.

Well, I think we may have missed the window and need to rebuild long term. But even so, I really liked what I saw from Tebow at the end of last season and I was not a true believer by any stretch. He would at least give me some hope that the future may be looking up. We aren't going to beat the Packers and Bears with a retread like McNabb.
