The Cowboys could have a new kickoff returner for Sunday’s home opener against Tampa Bay, coach Jason Garrett indicated Monday. Felix Jones fumbled away the opening kickoff in Sunday’s 27-7 loss at Seattle and is ranked 23rd in the NFL with a 21.3-yard per attempt average. “Line 1 in returning the football in the NFL for me is ball security,” Garrett said Monday. “We’re always looking at personnel…and when you make a play like that, you look hard at that and what the alternatives are.” Among the candidates to replace Jones are Kevin Ogletree, Dwayne Harris, Phillip Tanner and Morris Claiborne. Garrett was asked if he thought about benching Jones after the fumble. “I think those situations vary, to be honest with you, and one of the things we talk about all the time with our players is you have to move on,” Garrett said. “You have to move on from success. You have to move on from adversity. Taking care of the football is really a critical part of the game and clearly he didn’t do that on the first play. “But he was going to go back out there the next time and we had to make sure that he was ready to go and he returned the ball better as he got more opportunities in the game and certainly protected it better. But I think the situations vary. Sometimes you say, ‘Hey, you’ve had enough opportunities. Let’s put the next guy in,” and other times you believe in the guy because of his body of work and you give him another chance to do it.”
