Rice cut by Ravens (1 Viewer)

They cut him for this a few days after they put up a statue of a murderer. Not saying they shouldn't have cut him(they definitely should have). Just ironic

If there was a video of the murder, the statue wouldn't be there.

We live in a society where all sorts of crimes and bad deeds are permissible so long as they stay hidden or can never be proven. But when they are exposed for everyone to see, the result is always inevitable: ostracise and punish.

How does this fit in with all of the other domestic abuse incidents that NFL players are charged with? My guess is that this is not the worst offense of them all, just the one that got caught on tape.

It's a public perception league. The tape is everything.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didnt Stallworth kill a man and wasnt Brent just welcomed back to the NFL after killing a man while drunk too?

Nobody else will touch him, his career is over.
Agree about this season and next but a year or two can work wonders
He's not good enough anymore to risk the fallout from fans imo
I wouldn't ever touch him but I can see a PR firm putting him on the oprah tour and him playing or attempting to play again. America loves a redemption story and the land of 2nd chances.I applaud the Ravens

Good job, Ravens.

However, do you think a team will pick him up?
No way. He's a (rightfully) pariah now. No one is going to touch him this season... possibly ever.
That's what they said about Vick.
If there were video of Vick lynching dogs, he'd be dead by now.
Does the video change the fact of what happened? What did you think a KO of a woman by an NFL player looked like? Not what the video shown?

Funny everyone knew he punched her, but now the video is out, they get up in arms again.

No double jeopardy in society.

Yes. The problem is the video. That goes so far in public perception. Also, Ray and his wife obviously lied their a$$es off to the Ravens and the cops. I'm not saying it's right, it's just the way it is.

I don't much care.

The additional info changes public perception, and all this league has to sell is its public perception. I'm not judging; I'm evaluating.

Killing men while drunk driving, allowed back in the league.

Punch a woman, and get banned from the NFL and should receive death.

I don't think people are paying attention if they think his career is over.

My guess is he will get an open ended suspension (ala Greg Williams) and after going through counseling, the suspension will be lifted after one year and next summer he will be on some other teams training camp roster.

Stupid, isn't it? It's all about perception and how much can be swept under the rug. Human beings are weird animals.
