I thought 2 games was a joke but the video did move me even more. He show no remorse after dropping her , he looked annoyed he had to drag her out of the elevator like a bag of trash. Yes the video changes things

Let me be clear, Ray Rice is a doosh, he deserved a stiffer penalty. Problem is I believe in due process. He was already punished for his infraction/mistake/crime, now he is punished again because people saw what they already knew. He shouldnt be punished further.
Self righteousness on this topic is through the roof.

Gotta bump both Rice and Forsett, both should be owned in all 12+ team leagues. Talieferro becomes even more intriguing in dynasty formats.
I got Rice basically as a throw-in in my dynasty league, I was hoping to sell him after he returned as the starter but now I gotta imagine he's basically a not so high upside lottery ticket given his age and the very low chance he sees much action this season, if any at all.
Ravens should have done this in the first place though.

The Ravens are a joke. They knew what he did--seeing the video or not. Now their just saving face.

I don't want to flame on this so let's not but, seriously: What exactly changed for people to go from not rioting in the streets over a two game suspension to standing on soap boxes and patting people on the back for them lowering the hammer on him?
Just because we now saw the tape? We already knew what happened. Are we so desensationalized that we need it in our face to get it? If someone tells me a guy raped a girl I don't need to see it happen to understand the severity of that.
I, like most, thought the punishment was weak. But now I think it's borderline martyr/witch hunt. They have done everything today except drag his body through town square. We get it. He's a ##### and he is getting the hammer dropped but I feel as bad for us for switching from one stance so hard as I do for anyone else. We already knew and understood what he did to the woman.

Isn't the new policy a 6 game suspension for a first offense and then a lifetime suspension after that? As far as I know this is his first offense? He made a terrible mistake for sure, but I do think he deserves at least one more chance.
I know it will be tough for any team to take him because of the public reaction they will get, but as stated above there were a couple guys who received second chances after being involved in someones death.

100% agree.
He has to do the mea culpa tour. Once he does that, the story becomes "he's turned his life around" and he'll start developing allies in the league and media again and he'll get back on a team.
No chance he's finished. He's on a team's camp roster next year.

I think he's done from a PR standpoint, but it's easier to take that position given his 272 touches and 3.61 yards per touch in 2013.

You are really riding this horse. It's not rocket science - you could probably be working any job, a fast food cashier, and if you were on video knocking out your spouse, you'd probably be fired.
Except Rice is getting paid millions and will be OK financially (unless he's a moron, as well). He'll have the option to get picked up at a later time if he can convince someone that he can stay out of trouble. He's older, though, so he probably won't be able to be a RB anymore in the NFL, like TONS of other RBs creeping up on 30 years old.
Except they didn't commit assault, so I tend to feel for the "good guys" that lose their jobs a little more.

You have a point about people reacting more when they actually see it, and they should have been just as outraged before.
But a witch hunt? I disagree there - I'm going to save giving pity to the assailant in a crime. It's the chance you take when you hit your wife and you are a public figure. The rage might be overboard, but I think it's also overboard to clock your wife when she yells at you.
Btw, the witches are now known to be innocent (unless you actually believe in witches). Rice ain't no witch being burned at the stake.

Do we as a society place far too much emphasis on actually seeing a crime committed (on video) rather than hearing about it? Of course we do.
But these facts don't help Ray Rice, nor mean that he shouldn't have been released. If anything, they demand a more just treatment of others who do bad things and get away with it. Rice is finally receiving what he deserves; now we should shine the spotlight on others.

The right thing is happening because some clowns in Jersey don't know how to run a casino. Hear me out:
This thing never gets revisited without the video. The immediate backlash leads to Rice getting released in a matter of hours. It look less than 12 hours, from TMZ to releasing the video, to Rice being out of a job mere weeks after Ravens fans giving him a standing O at camp. I think the NFL never thought that video was getting released.
I am really interested in that video getting released.
The video was from Revel hotel, which has since closed. No reason why anyone not from the area would know anything about it, but basically the hotel has been dead man walking for a while. The employees were all about to be out of a job, at another place, Showboat Casino, as well. One of my buddies is a VIP at Golden Nugget, and we go down every once in a while. He was laughing about Revel to me about two weeks ago, saying that it was basically a staff land rush there, and that managers were stealing everything not nailed down. There's some security middle management over at Revel, out of a job a week ago, who had access to the tape. Why not sell it to TMZ? What's gonna happen? Lose your job? I would start the bidding at $100,000, and go up from there. If Rice had been staying at the Borgata, this might not have happened.

Greg Hardy will get a 6 game suspension. He flies under the radar, does not have the name that Ray Rice has. Also, no video, despite being convicted and threatening to kill his wife.
Maybe. Guys have done worse. I think most people would have written off Vick after pictures of those dogs started leaking out.
Sadly, this is in some ways a PR game at this point. It depends on how badly he wants back in. If he's willing to grovel for a year, do charity/advocate work, find religion, take counsel with Tony Dungy, or whatever BS his people have him do to try and turn his image around, then he will 100% have people who stake out the "he's changed his life, he deserves a second chance" position.
The first step will be his statement. I'm sure it'll be something along the lines of "I'm truly sorry, I accept the punishment of the NFL and I look forward to changing my life around and proving to everyone I'm deserving of a second chance" blah blah blah.
Then, they'll let things cool down a bit and give someone an interview on one of the Sunday preshows where he breaks down on camera.

Makes you wonder if Rice would still be under contract if the NFL and a compliant Rice arranged for a release of this video and say, a 1-year suspension. Can't deny the politics/optics of a weak punishment followed by the release of this second video.
