I expect he will be the 3rd DB on Carolina next year, perhaps a starter.

But will he be returning kicks? I wouldn't think DeAngelo Williams would be returning kicks, or would he?

Is this the right forum?

This is the right forum.

I'm curious to see the responses as well - he was great for a couple of my teams last year when I needed him, but it always seemed like a mirage.

he is a talented player, & there was general consensus that he outplayed gamble & lucas last season... latter was admittedly banged up repeatedly last season, but seemed to lose his job at some point... it is very possible that lucas & gamble are starters again (especially if lucas returns to 04-05 form)... still, he might be the kind of guy that could be a top 30 DB even as nickle... & i think if not this year, he could very well start soon, so worth rostering if you have space... i like him because of his well rounded game... its a rare young CB that has his ball skills & is as tough in run support... imo a keeper...

* i thought he turned in one of the better rookie performances for a DB, with likes of dawan landry, antoine bethea & donte whitner...

Marshall played solid football as a rookie last year. I would be very suprised if he is not starting the full season this year regardless of the health of Lucas and Gamble. I think he is too good to be used situationaly and he proved that last year.

His tackle numbers were very strong for a cornerback 69 solo tackles 13 assists playing part time. He also made several big plays with 3 interceptions 2 forced fumbles 4 fumble recoveries 1TD and 1 sack. And there is reason to think he might make more big plays based on his 14 passes defensed and that he did not play full time last season.

Being a young and still untested cornerback at this point in his career means teams will still test him until he proves that they should do otherwise. So I think his tackle numbers are likely to be high again as team pick on him as per the rookie CB tendency.

I agree. Jene has him as the 4th rated CB in his early projections.

Thanks to the guys who were on him last year cuz I picked him up on the cheap late last year. Clearly, the guy is a playmaker and a return threat via INTs or as a kick returner.

This is what I really want to know. If he was the full time kick returner, and the nickle back, he'd be an excellent DB2 for any fantasy team. He has some serious ball skills, and is a playmaker on special teams.I think he can beat out Lucas as well...

Maybe too early to tell regarding the returner's role. They may draft some one. If he wins the starting CB job he probably won't be the main KR guy. The will probably not let DeAngelo return kicks either if he wins the starting RB job which he should.

They could have Steve Smith return kicks. Or draft Ginn.
Smith is looking like a 3rd round pick
I thought so too, but saw one "expert" say he's moving up after his USC workout.
I think he may have been originally referring to the "other" Steve Smith (WR CAR). :)
I was since he has him in a league we're in together, but then thought he was talking about the other Smith.
I agree with both of you :pokey:

John Fox continually baffles me with who he lets on the field to start and when...both Def and Offense... its like he's allergic to productive players with more potential or something...

on a dynasty team where we had four CBs (kelvin hayden, marshall, ike taylor & ken lucas) and needed to drop one, i dropped starter lucas because i like nickle CB marshall's potential so much (& other two)... & until he is starter, he is rare nickle with potential to score like starter... marshall is a gifted athlete, hardnosed in run support, has a playmaker's ball skills and has star potential. he could be one of the ten best DBs in the NFL once he gets a shot to play full time regularly...

Dave Baker burns Bloom about Marshall in his article today!
Guilty as charged - I just didn't think that they could justify leaving him as the nickel back after the way he played last year. Ill still be drafting Marshall in the DB20-25 range, because once he's an everyweek starter, he'll be an everyweek starter on my fantasy team.

IDPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
:coffee: Marshall = EEE on the IDP side as well- the kind of player with ability that makes you want to tune in just to see what he does next. The twisting INT and return for TD two weeks ago is a scene we will see replayed at least once a year for a while...
