Ricky Williams - RB1...RB2 to start season? (1 Viewer)

Could be a decent RB1 and definetely a solid RB2 to start the season!

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel expects the Dolphins to open the season with Ricky Williams as their workhorse running back.Miami has been toying with the idea of starting Ricky and using Ronnie Brown off the bench. The paper suggests Brown may only play "occasionally" as a fill in during the first few weeks. Williams is currently leading the team with a 4.9 YPC average on 15 preseason carries. At this point, it may take a patient owner to draft Brown as an RB2 without securing a top-notch RB3.Source: Miami Herald

We grabbed him this weekend in the later rounds of a 14 Team hoping to move him to the Ronnie Brown owner after a few weeks. The owner stupidly grabbed Brown in the 1st round and Ricky's emergence will prove catastrophic for his team's chances.

In my team meeting this morning I informed Ricky that he will start week 1. He and I already knew it though.

Mort just busting out with a "Parcells & Co. are on baord with Ricky and might trade Ronnie Brown" on Monday Night Countdown won't affect any ADP's now, will it?

I think Ricky is going to get close to 20 carries a week with ronnie around the 7-10 mark. I heard mort say the same thing but its highly unlikley they trade him........The Dolphins said they were going to bring him along slowly and thats whats been happening

Of course, I agree. No way they trade Ronnie. I'm just wondering what Uncle Bill hopes to achieve by planting that nugget for Mort to parrot.Any guesses?

All I know is the last two seasons, Mort has had rumors like this thrown out there and 9/10 they are flat out wrong. I wish I could remember what it was last year that he wouldn't let go of, but it seemed last year like ESPN was just tossing news out on a consistent basis to see if anything stuck. For all we know, this isn't from Tuna either. who knows where this comes from. This could be beat writer or trainer speculation.

Whats funny about this whole thing is shortly after this news I find the dolphins have posted a new depth chart....

New Depth Chart: Williams the rb; Langford a First Teamer; Roth an OLB

By Ben Volin | Monday, August 18, 2008, 05:59 PM

Some more movement on the Dolphins depth chart as they prepare to face Kansas City this weekend.

The biggest changes come at left defensive end. Matt Roth occupied that spot the first two weeks, but he is now being listed as the strong outside linebacker. That has caused a couple other dominoes to fall.

Rookie third-rounder Kendall Langford leap-frogged Randy Starks, and is now listed as the First Team LDE. Starks is still the backup.

Joey Porter was moved from strong to weak outside linebacker, bumping Charlie Anderson to the Second Team and Quentin Moses to Third Team.

Other moves …

Ricky Williams has ascended to First Team running back, and Ronnie Brown is now behind him.

Boomer Grigsby and Reagan Mauia have flip-flopped at fullback, and now Grigsby is the starter.

Trey Darilek is now the backup at center, and Matt Spanos is Donald Thomas’ backup at right guard.

WRs Anthony Armstrong and Jayson Foster swapped, with Armstrong now being listed first.

Michael Lehan returned to practice Monday, but is not listed on the depth chart.

Finally, the QBs continue to be listed by seniority: Pennington, McCown, Beck, Henne.

Mort is usually pretty reliable on all thing Parcells, given the relationship they built at ESPN. But with that said, this smells like mis-information. So the question remains, why?

Thanks a lot you guys. Now I can't get him in the 11th round. :goodposting:
Sorry...I got him in the 16th round of a 12 team league last weekend :)
I got Ricky in the 23rd round....3 years ago :bag:Deep rosters...
Too deep of rosters. I know you're an active owner and if you have Ricky Williams on your roster from years ago, then I'd like to see all the rosters of the league, it would be kind of funny I'd imagine in seeing some of the people actually on a team with hopes and dreams of one day turning coal into a diamond.

Well the Phins have A LOT of building to do. While Brown is a good back, he's been banged up pretty good so far - maybe he feels Ricky will get them by and they can trade Brown for significant picks/players that will help them build down the road.Or maybe he is playing up Williams' value to try and get something for him?I dunno, with Big Tuna, it's all mysterious smoke and mirrors and magic. That dude has more plates in the air than anyone.Plans on top of plans on top of plans.

Any chance the Dolphins may be doing what the Pats did with Randy Moss last year? I mean before the season he didn't even play, so no one knew how he would come out of the gate.

Just a thought.

The Pats had a reason to disguise what they were planning. They were playoff/SB contenders. What would Miami hide? How they plan to scrounge up 4 wins in 16 games?
