RIP Ben E King (1 Viewer)

King may be (arguably) one step down from the Immortals of 20th century pop, but it's a mighty short step if so. And he's so often easier for me to listen to than someone like Otis, who just wrecks me. Ben E's hits with the Drifters and on his own are like heightened comfort food.

My God, "Stand By Me" may well be the most perfect match of vocal-to-melody I've ever heard.

RIP

He had an amazing talent. The current crop of auto tuned crap vocalists cannot even come close!

Sadly, another King is going through rough times. I'm talking about B.B. It will be a huge loss when he goes.

I thank my Dad often for introducing me to that era of music.

Ben E. King, Otis Redding, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke, The Platters, The Drifters, The Coasters...

No one sings (or sang) like those guys.

Now we get the likes of Chris Brown and Kanye. :barf:

Where's the next Marvin Gaye?

Depressing.

The classic soul/R&B folks are going extinct. :( Some of my favorite music comes from that golden era of the genre, and he was a part of it. RIP BEK
