Let's play two today for Ernie, give it all you got in his honor. - And it's a shame the Cubs have never won a pennant in his lifetime much less a WS.

That is a shame, and this coming year has a decent chance for at least one of those.

About 5-6 years ago my buddy was tending the bar at Chilis in Naperville (maybe it was North Plainfield). About every other week Ernie would come in for lunch and sit at the bar by himself and talk baseball with my friend (a White Sox fan). He was still pretty sharp and knew the league in and out. He really loved baseball. He always wanted to watch the Cubs, but would gladly watch ANY baseball.
Well anyways, my friend was single so anytime a cute waitress or customer would come to the bar, he would talk up my buddy and try to hook him up with all the ladies, saying they should go out with him, hes a nice guy, etc. Was genuinely a nice and positive person and just enjoyed talking to people.
I am a lot more upset about this than I thought I would be. A truly great ambassador for the Cubs and MLB.
