Mostly a backup throughout his career.
One game stands out to me in 1975. Not because of his play, but the Colts started the year 1- 4 and went on to win 9 straight and make the playoffs. The Colts were trailing the Dolphins at halftime and Bert Jones got hurt in the first half. Domres came in and led the Colts to victory, keeping the streak alive. Funny thing is, he only threw the ball 4 times and the Colts rushed for 180 yards and won 33 - 17. They completely dominated the Dolphins in the second half, who couldn’t stop the Colts rushing attack of Lydell Mitchell, Rosevelt Leaks, and Don McCauley. Don’t ask me why, but that Domres game stood out to me.

Edit: Later in the year, with Bert Jones back, the Colts won the rematch 10 - 7 in Baltimore, in what is labeled “The Fog Bowl” on a Toni Linhart field goal in overtime. The fog rolled in off the Chesapeake Bay and I remember how eerie that game was. Not to mention it being a nail biter for me. That win propelled the Colts to the playoffs. If the Colts had lost the previous game in Miami they wouldn’t have made the playoffs. So thank you Marty Domres for being a game manager and just handing the ball off to Mitchell, Leaks, and McCauley. I remember both games like it was yesterday, yet I can’t remember what had for lunch.
