RIP Rowdy Roddy Piper (1 Viewer)

If you guys haven't seen the recent Legends House reality show, you should give it a watch. Piper was on it -- in addition to Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Tony Atlas, Jimmy Hart and a few others I can't remember off the top of my head. Piper was frigging hilarious in it and he and Hacksaw actually formed an elderly bromance that was probably the best/funniest part of the entire show.

Was on the WWE Network but it's everywhere in regards to torrents and the like, so I highly recommend finding it and watching it illegally.

RIP.

Underrated match in Piper's career was in a Wrestlemania against Bret Hart, right as Hart was trying to break out as a singles wrestler.

Piper and Hart figured out a finish where Piper would put Hart in the Sleeper, but before choking him out Hart would get to the corner, walk up the turnbuckles, then flip over Piper, and get Piper's shoulders on the mat and pin him while still in the Sleeper. It was a really cool finish to a good brawler v technician match, and impressive than neither man injured himself seriously executing that difficult finish.

I'm 44 yo. I literally was watching Rowdy Rowdy Piper in the Pacific Northewest Wrestling circuit in Portland Oregon 3 decades ago. He was always "crazy", talking smack (that actually was making sense and funny) and kicking a$$. He always was ready to chew bubble gum and kick a$$...and was always fresh out of bubble gum.

I love Pipers corner too. Remember when he hit Jimmy Supper Fly Snuka in the head with a real Pineapple? Awesome stick!

RIP Rowdy Rowdy Piper

I agree this one hurts. I am 46 and have watched wrestling all my life and you hated this guy and hated this guy and then you would love him--rinse and repeat. This industry ate these 80/90 stars up and spit them out. You hope that going forward they have better protocols for these guys, but when some of them are working shows 300 nights a year it gives you pause and concern.

Met him at my mom's place about 20 yrs ago. Very big, was not pretty surprised, was not very nice

Fun to watch. I'm older so I appreciate the guys from another era. Loved seeing Bruno chase him from the ring.

That was a landmark match, too, in the sense that Piper put someone over by letting them pin him, which never happened. I don't recall ever seeing Piper pinned in another televised match, ever. Even in his long feud with Hogan back in the day, when they would wrestle tons of house matches, Piper would always lose by DQ or countout, never by pinfall.

Anyway, R.I.P. Hot Rod.

Another WM match of his that gets overlooked - because it was at 3 on the undercard with Hogan-Andre and Steamboat-Savage - was his hair v. hair match against Adrian Adonis. Part 1 here. Ending here.

Funny guy who always spoke his mind. I thought he was a better heel than Flair because he always got his shots in. They Live will always be my favorite cheesy movie and re-watched it yesterday. His podcast was manic at times and great at other times. I will miss him.
