Risers and Fallers: AFC East (1 Viewer)

Jason Wood

Zoo York
One of the goals of the blog is to give non subscribers a taste of what subscribers have access to, but in a more simplified manner (aka a teaser).

Tonight I highlighted Dodds' Projection Tweaks article and gave some personal risers and fallers in the two East division (AFC East and NFC East).

Here are my AFC East risers and fallers...

http://blog.footballguys.com/2007/08/27/fa...llers-afc-east/

Continuing on…I thought it might be helpful to give you a few quick hitting comments on which players are rising and falling in MY (i.e., different than Dodds’) projections this preseason.

Up next, the AFC East:

RISING

* Kellen Clemens, NYJ (Rank: QB41) — Still backup, but solid play = dark horse replacement starter

* Ronnie Brown, MIA (Rank: RB10) — Cam Cameron rides one horse, Dolphins O-line looking OK

* Leon Washington, NYJ (Rank: RB40) — Solid play, Jones’ injury + Receiving threat = 3rd down back w/ upside

* Anthony Thomas, BUF (Rank: RB42) — Running with 1st team, will split carries with Lynch

* Jesse Chatman, MIA (Rank: RB54) — Clearly emerging as Fins RB2

* Lee Evans, BUF (Rank: WR6) — Elite talent, chemistry with Losman

* Wes Welker, NE (Rank: WR49) — Possession receiver having strong camp

* David Martin, MIA (Rank: TE24) — Efficient scorer, getting lots of work in preseason

* Robert Royal, BUF (Rank: TE29) — Emerged as clear-cut starter

FALLING

* Chad Pennington, NYJ (Rank: QB25) — Inconsistent camp + Clemens strong play = risky

* Trent Green, MIA (Rank: QB28) — I originally slotted him around QB20, but struggles brought me back to the mean

* Thomas Jones, NYJ (Rank: RB21) — Achilles injury + Pete Kendall trade = a few notches lower

* Marshawn Lynch, BUF (Rank: RB28) — Jauron committed to RBBC, Lynch not running hard at times

* Lorenzo Booker, MIA (Rank: RB70) — A non-factor thus far in the preseason

* Randy Moss, NE (Rank: WR10) — Lack of practice in August means slower start to the season

* Jerricho Cotchery, NYJ (Rank: WR32) — Good, but not great talent

* Kevin Everett, BUF (Rank: TE52) — Royal emerged as starter, Everett a preseason non-factor

Let’s hear your thoughts…where do you agree? Where do you disagree and why?
Love to get your thoughts...which AFC East players are rising in your rankings? Which are falling?

Not sure what time frame we are talking here so I'll base mine on the past week or so.

Falling

Trent Green - I thought the Dolphins were crazy to go after him in the first place, he hasn't proven me wrong yet.

Chad Pennington - Looks bad.

Thomas Jones - Getting nicked up in August is never good. Offensive Line is a worry as well.

Marshawn Lynch - Has not impressed me this pre-season.

Ronnie Brown - Looks a little better than average to me and I have a gut feeling the Dolphins are going to be bad. Jesse Chatman isn't helping matters.

Randy Moss - Show me something this summer Randy.

Donte Stallworth - Same old story with him.

Ben Watson - Too many options in New Englans and Ben just hasn't taken that next step that we've been waiting for.

Buffalo Defense - They look bad and could be on the feild a lot this year.

Miami Defense - Getting old & may be worn down by the lack of offense this year.

Risers

K.Clemmons - He's the man if Pennington gets pulled. He's looked much better this summer than Chad has.

Leon Washington - Emerging as a nice 3rd down option. T.Jones being less than 100% only means more time for Neon Leon.

Lee Evans - Looks really good. Keeps getting better & Losman is honed in on this guy.

Wes Welker - Could end up leading the team in receptions in '07

Tedd Ginn JR. - Good to at least see him on the field. It's not like he has Jerry Rice in front of him.

David Martin - Looking better.

S.Gostkowski - Pat's will score a lot of points and he's been looking good.

RISERS:

Thomas(BUF) - Lynch isn't doing much with his opportunites, looks like it may really be RBBC..... just like they've said all along.

Crowder(MIA) - May be the heir apparent for Zach Thomas.

Welker(NE) - He'll be a monster in leagues that award for all-purose yards. Again.

Clemmons(NYJ) - Duh.

FALLERS:

Price(BUF) - Starter for now? Yes. Better than the #4 WR? No. I wouldn't be surprised if he slides back to fourth in receiving on that team starter or not. Reed and Parrish are both just better imo.

Booker(MIA) - Take your pick. WR? RB? Both, anyone seen either?

Merriweather(NE) - Looks like he's a year away from cutting into Harrison's production and may be stuck playing CB/nickel???

Smith(NYJ) - This was the season I really expected he'd take over as the #3 WR in that offense, Sounds like they are planning on him being the emergency-everything without giving him a position to produce at anything.
