Risers and Fallers: AFC West (1 Viewer)

One of the goals of the blog is to give non subscribers a taste of what subscribers have access to, but in a more simplified manner (aka a teaser).

Last night I highlighted Dodds' Projection Tweaks article and today gave some personal risers and fallers in the two West divisions (AFC West and NFC West).

Here are my AFC West risers and fallers...

http://blog.footballguys.com/2007/08/28/fa...llers-afc-west/

Continuing on…I thought it might be helpful to give you a few quick hitting comments on which players are rising and falling in MY (i.e., different than Dodds’) projections this preseason.

Up next, the AFC West:

RISING

* Daunte Culpepper, OAK (Rank: QB24) — Healthy + Playing well + JaMarcus holding out

* Damon Huard, KC (Rank: QB32) — Named Week One starter

* LaMont Jordan, OAK (Rank: RB25) — Healthy, scoring TDs and catching passes

* Cecil Sapp, DEN (Rank: RB62) — Listed 2nd on depth chart

* Darren Sproles, SD (Rank: RB74) — Making plays + Turner high ankle sprain

* Vincent Jackson, SD (Rank: WR26) — Has shown a lot his preseason, clear cut WR1

* Jerry Porter, OAK (Rank: WR36) — Out of doghouse, Oakland actually has real coaches this year

* Craig Davis, SD (Rank: WR61) — Pushing for starting spot as a rook

* Daniel Graham, DEN (Rank: TE23) — Both he and Scheffler will be involved in passing game

FALLING

* JaMarcus Russell, OAK (Rank: QB35) — Holding out + Culpepper in town

* Brodie Croyle, KC (Rank: QB37) — Poor preseason + Huard named starter

* Michael Turner, SD (Rank: RB45) — High ankle sprain late in August

* Mike Bell, DEN (Rank: RB48) — Listed 3rd on depth chart

* Dominic Rhodes, OAK (Rank: RB51) — Suspended + Average talent + Lots of RB depth in OAK

* Brandon Marshall, DEN (Rank: WR53) — Spent too much of preseason in dog house

* Malcolm Floyd, SD (Rank: WR74) — Rookie Davis pushing to start

Let’s hear your thoughts…where do you agree? Where do you disagree and why?
Love to get your thoughts...which AFC West players are rising in your rankings? Which are falling?

I disagree with Brandon Marshall falling. I think he's going to have a good season, with a better second half.

850 receiving yards, 6 touchdowns.

I vacillated on Marshall, and it seems he's now back OUT of the dog house. But I started off quite high on him (above consensus), so my "Faller" is probably overstating things a bit.

There was an article in today's UT discussing Eric Parker being ahead of schedule in his rehab. He's extremely popular and known as an extremely hard worker, so he'll likely push Craig Davis for time when he returns if Davis hasn't firmly established himself by then.

Also, Michael Turner's ankle isn't serious, and Darren Sproles is a much better preseason player than he is when the games actually count. I think he's being overrated currently.

Jamarcus Russell is falling? Really? Inconceivable!
All kidding aside, the Raiders might actually field a decent team this year. If Zach Miller can give them anything, they have the makings of a decent passing game.I like to think about this - What if they had gone after Culpepper before the draft?

This is great news. Do you have a link? TIA

:bs: They could've then grabbed Joe Thomas and help solidify the line; they would be on their way.

Love the Jerry Porter call.

I have drafted him in the 9th round in almost every draft I have been in. Curry's ADP is higher than Porter. Big value play there.

I would say Sproles has risen from "undraftable" to "still undraftable" in even the deepest of redraft leagues. :ptts:

Michael Turner walked with only a slight limp, his ankle taped but not in a protective boot. He wore a sneaker on his right foot.

“I'm good,” the backup running back said yesterday, three days after spraining his ankle in a preseason game. “We're still going to take our time with it, but we're still aiming for the (season-opening) Bears game.”

I tend to agree with most of these. I thought I read Marshall was out of the doghouse and is expected to play a major role in the Denver offense. Knowing that makes me think he's more of rising than falling.
