Road Rage Karma (1 Viewer)

If that's tailgating, I live in the tailgating capital of the world. Around here, that's giving somebody an opening to slip in front of you.

The guy got was coming to him but she's due for some karma herself.

In the comments she says that he was tailgating her for 3 miles. In the video I see a total of two cars in the right lane over 90 seconds of drive time. She had ample opportunity to slide to the right, let him pass, then move back out to continue passing other cars. She doesn't have the right to obstruct traffic because she's going to turn left in 3 miles.

Too many get self-righteous about the left lane. When I'm passing cars at a good clip if someone comes up on me at faster rate than I'm traveling then it's no big inconvenience to pull over for a few seconds. I may even speed up a little to more quickly slide to the right to let him by and move back over to pass myself again. There's no magic defensible speed to stay in the left lane when it's obvious faster drivers want to pass.
Bingo, exactly my policy as well.
Same here. Just seems a lot less stressful.

I guess this is as good a place as any to throw this... my odd experience from Sunday afternoon.

About 3pm I'm heading home from the folks place with the GF riding shotgun and my buddy's dog in the backseat (dogsitting). We are in my Jeep with the top down at a red light... we are about to turn onto the interstate when I notice an old Geo Tracker next to us with an older (50's) man who had that "has done lots of drinking in his time" look to him. I think nothing of it and the light turns green.

Trackerguy punches it and takes off as fast as the 1.6L 4cyl powerplant will go. My immediate thought is "that's odd" but don't think much of it. We get moving and ride for a while on the interstate. About 2mi up the road the Tracker is in the right lane and is behind another vehicle and we happen to pass him on the left going about 5 over the speed limit.

As we pass him I notice he's holding up a middle finger... odd, as I have NO idea who this guy is. After I pass he immediately whips behind us and starts riding his horn, screaming, and flipping the bird. I start laughing as I have NO idea what this guy is up to. Once the right lane clears, I merge right to let him by, and he floors it (based on the sound coming from the poor tracker) and slowly pullls even to me and starts laughing maniacally, flipping the bird, then as he slowly pulls away he starts pumping his fist emphatically.

We continue on at about 5 over the speed limit for a while, both a little confused as to what has happened, when we notice the guy is slowly pulling over to the right shoulder. As we approach he pulls back into traffic in front of us forcing us to brake slightly, and then punches it again, slowly pulling away while pumping his fist victoriously again. At this point we've got no idea what is going on but I flip on my right turn signal as we approach my exit. Jackwagon sees this but it's too late for him to take the exit, so he slows to a stop on the shoulder above the ramp and as we pull away we see him reaching across the small cab waiving a middle finger again and yelling.

I have no idea who this guy was and can think of nothing we could have done to elicit this reaction.... This guy was clearly waging some sort of battle against us and was intermittently furious with us, and elated with his ability to coax a 80mph top speed from his glorified golf cart.

People are strange...

Apparently she couldn't move over because of trucks on the right, and she had a left turn lane to get into ahead.

And she was just holding the phone up in her hand without looking at it, so she always had her eyes on the road.

Also, others have recognized the guy and says he's a #### all the time on the roads.
I watched the video I saw room to get over. Further she must have looked at the phone as she kept reaiming it. I sense a lot of lies.
What about the fact that the lady driver turned the truck's plate over to LE and they arrested and charge the truck driver with leaving the scene of an accident, careless driving, and failure to wear a seat belt? Cops saw it a completely different way.

Don't sweat it, I think that is just the typical reaction people have when they first meet you.

Pretty familiar with that stretch of road as its about 20 minutes from my house. There is alot of truck traffic from phosphate mines to their processing facility on the river there. Speed limit is 55 mph and it actually goes down about 1/4 of a mile from where the driver crashed. They were getting ready to get into a stretch that steps down to 35mph and then increases to either 50 or 55mph. The interview that the camera lady had with local TV said that it had just rained and she slowed down because the road was slick.

Guy was being a jerk, plain and simple. Regardless of what she was doing. She shouldnt have been recording eveything with her phone though. Pretty sure thats illegal in Florida.

The lady driving the car is the problem. When the video starts the vehicle she's passing is even with the truck behind her. She apparently slowed down around the 8 second mark because the truck behind her closes in and the vehicle she's supposedly passing must have pulled even with her because it's no longer in sight out the back window. It doesn't appear behind here again until the 50 second mark. This is after 3 minutes of clogging the passing lane before she started recording. The tailgating guy got what he deserved, but hopefully she's got a little something coming her way as well.
That's quite a bit of Zapruder film breakdown...

back... and to the left

GF's ex?

I am constantly amazed at how worked up people get about others driving slow in the left lane. Is it stupid/selfish/sometimes unsafe? Absolutely.

But it's never going to stop. People like the guy in the video blowing his top isn't going to change anything. Slow down, relax, accept the fact that you're not going to be able to go as fast as you'd like. Flash your lights once or twice. Honk your horn. Whatever. If slowpoke doesn't get the idea you're SOL. Tailgating, passing on the right, etc is just stupid.

Passing on the right? I'm not supposed to do this if some ######## is parked in the left lane?

Not to be a one-upper, but the title reminded me of something glorious that happened last month. I'm on 95s in RI, heading towards the Connecticut border. There is a dude on my ### who has NY plates. I am doing 80 in the passing lane, and I am passing a crapload of cars, and he's still tailgating. Exit 3 is about a half-mile away, and there is a well-known (to locals) speed trap at the bottom of a steep hill right before the exit. A state trooper is sitting there all day, every day, hidden behind some small trees.

You can probably guess where the story is going. I pull into the right-hand lane, he speeds by and gives me the requisite tough guy look. By the time he gets to the bottom of the hill, he had to be going at LEAST 90 mph as he passed the statie. Flashing lights.... have a nice day, guy.

I executed it beautifully.

:own3d:
:hifive:
####in' eh. Sweet. Wish I coulda been there.

My favorite is when you're coming off of a 3+ lane highway, where there's a ton of volume, approaching an exit EVERYONE is trying to exit the highway from, which is only one lane. So, when all the lanes merge off of the highway to exit, it's like the beginning of S1E1 of the Walking Dead with the cars.

Well, not for everyone. Enter "the special guy in the special car that magically grants him driving in the shoulder" privileges in one of these messes.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, more satisfying while sitting and waiting to exit and seeing that guy pass you than there is to see the flickering lights of the police cruiser chasing after him about 1-2 minutes after he passed you.

No laws on the books in Florida against cellphone use and driving; texting is a secondary offense.

Schweet! I can't stand tailgaters! This guy was clearly being an ###. If she hadn't been filming, he would never have been caught as he did flee from his truck and later was met up by the police. Karma baby!

Based on her interview here.. She claims she only sped up because the speed limit increased at that point..

and I agree with TheIronSheik that on a highway get your A## over .. but on roads like this, there are no "highway" rules as you never know where the person in front of you may need to turn at..

I deal with at least one of these types of people almost every day on the highways...

On my way home the speed limit is 55 and, unless someone in front of me is going slower, I am always doing 65-70 passing slower traffic in the middle and right lane...

yet it never fails some jerk thinks that because in 5 miles the limit changes to 65 I'm driving too slow and rides my A##..

I've gotten to the point that if they do this I'll slow down to match the speed of the car next to me and watch the steam.. .
This should get your license revoked and you thrown in Jail. This I hate the most. Don't drive the same speed as the car next to you. Did you not see what happened in the video? If people were courteous and let others by traffic and life would be so much better.

Sorry, I meant passing on the right using the shoulder/breakdown lane etc.

This was a good ten years ago, but I'll never forget the best road rage karma I've ever experienced. I was driving the left lane on a pretty busy freeway There was a big rig right in front of me I was following me and another one directly to my right in the middle lane. I'm driving along fine when I look in my rear view mirror and notice there's a guy in his new Z3 convertible (top down), talking on a cell phone, riding my tail. I didn't think much of it, because I was stuck behind the rig and couldn't speed up. Then, all of a sudden, the guy behind me starts honking and flailing his arms at me from behind like I'm blocking him from making any progress. I can't get over to the right without slowing down because of the other rig in the middle lane, so I take my foot off the gas a little to slow down, let the rig on my right get ahead of me, and slide over into the middle lane. I guess the BMW guy thought I was slowing down to screw with him, so as he passes me, he throws me the bird, and is yelling out his window he's gonna kick my ###. Anyways, once he passed me, I got back into the left lane and rode pretty close behind him. At this point, he was now riding the tail of the rig in the far left lane. Somehow, the guy ended up getting boxed in between the rig in front of him in the left lane, me behind him in the left lane and the other rig in the middle lane to his right. After a mile or two of driving like this, the guy puts on his right turn signal, I assume to get over and exit. There was no communication between me and either of the rigs, but the three of us maintained a constant pace that kept the guy boxed in and unable to get over. He starts riding the rigs tail again; he's tapping his brakes; doing anything he can to create a crease to get over, but we keep him squeezed like that for another 4-5 exits. For those 4-5 miles, the guy was screaming, doing all kinds of crap waving his arms, throwing the bird at all of us. When he finally got over, he was so pissed, he turned around and tossed his cell phone at the big rig that had been in the middle lane. It was greatness.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this.

Thoughts?

She's in the left hand lane. She's going 50 mph. Guy is tailgating her. She doesn't move over. And when he goes to pass, she appears to speed up. I'm not sure I can blame the guy for giving her the finger. But I may be missing something.
She's passing slower traffic. She's about to make a left turn on a highway. Explain why she shouldn't be in the left lane for that.

However, I can't find a reason that she should be filming someone behind her on her cellphone while driving. That's moronic too.

On a highway like that? Yes. On a state highway that has stop lights, the left lane is not the passing lane.

This was not a true highway so the left lane is not necessarily a passing lane. However, and this rings true for anything you do, it's probably not a good idea as an adult to egg on other adults the point of anger and rage. She could easily have ended up recording this guy pulling up and blowing her kid's head off.

Yeah I drive on roads everyday with stop lights. I don't have to get over 3 miles in advance to turn.

Congratulations?

The point I was making is that state highways with traffic lights on them don't have traditional passing lanes like interstates do. The left lane is not a passing lane.

Yes. She made the left at the end of the video.

Perhaps you all would like all states to have jughandles like NJ has so that you aren't allowed in the left lane for any reason other than to pass.

Redneck D-Bag got what he deserved. Hope he's alright...he didn't deserve physical damage to himself...just maybe a rupturing of the truck nuts.

My subdivision is off of a road like this. It's 55mph with stop lights over a 10 mile stretch of road. Half the time, I'm in the left hand lane preparing to turn left. And invariably, there's some jack #### on my tail as though I shouldn't be in the left lane.

Used to travel 301 and 441 to my MiL's. Anymore, I hit Jacksonville via two lane drive through Ocala National Forest (17 to 19 via Palatka). Easy drive but not many places to stop.

Apparently the phones in Florida stood their ground.

During lighter traffic on any multi-lane road it is simple etiquette to stay out of the leftmost lane except to pass or prepare to turn left regardless of any local laws. And during light traffic when you know where you are going you don't require miles of preparation. There are laws of the road and then there's basic moral code. This is akin to not holding the door open for someone. No laws broken but you still are part of the dregs of society.

I am a strong believer in the quote "To find a man's true character, play golf with him" but I've come to the conclusion that it's faster to just drive with him.

Like a lot of frustrating situations if you think it out it's not worth getting pissed about. It's more of just a lack of awareness that is irritating. Clueless person driving slowly in left lane is irritating, like person who walks out of an elevator and just stands in the way deciding where to go, person who waits 5 minutes in line at coffee shop and then doesn't know what to order when the get to register, person at end of 6 hour flight who takes time to put on jacket and put computer in bag holding up the entire plane, etc. Not big deal but if you are going to be a dumb ### do it on your own time.

What is infuriating and total BS is the person, and it has been mentioned in this thread, who take it upon themselves to drive the same speed as the person in the right lane for whatever reason. Even if the dude behind you is acting like a maniac just get over. Don't compound it by being a total ###. There is a chance that you we're being an idiot as well so just move over when you get a chance.

I can't believe the guy hasn't come out to give a statement of sorts yet. Seems like he'd want to say something.
