I know the Saints offense is holding him down because of their love of spreading the ball around, but I think this guy has at least wr 2 talent. 6' 2" 210 with elite speed is pretty good stuff. This is his fifth year and if he doesn't do it this year I'm thinking about writing him off, with Colston nursing another knee surgery and Devery Henderson being Devery Henderson if it's not this year then it will never be. And I've never really been a big fan of Lance IMO Meachem is more talented. What say you guys.

I liked Meachem 2 years ago alot and I was down on him last year due to ADP. I like him again this year due to the running game being better in NO this year and Meachem is their play action and deep guy. Colston being dinged up is a good reason to be high on him as well.I think we could be seeing a top 20 wr this year.

Yes, he's still a high upside pick -- You can just get him at a more affordable rate now.

With Colston's 5 knee surgeries, very fair to question how long his career will be.

For him to be top 20 I think there would need to be an injury to someone like Colston, Lance Moore or Jimmy Graham. So many targets for Brees and Meachem just doesn't see enough balls thrown his way. Heck Henderson is good for a few nice games.

I drafted him in my rookie league dynasty draft and have held onto him for the same reasons as you. He flashes talent, but it isn't consistent enough production to start very often. The problem with dropping him this year if he doesn't break out is that this is his contract year, so more than likely I expect he will go to another team if he doesn't get a chance to start. He has starter talent for sure and someone will offer him decent money and a chance to start. So, I think you are stuck with him for another year too if you have hung onto him this long.

This is the boat Im in, Ive wanted to dump him for a different player with upside for 2 years now but I just cant because the talent is there and I feel at anytime he could just breakout.

I am sure someone will post stats to dispute this but he sure seems to do more with less than just about any WR I know. Last year wasn't quite as good as the year before but he still always makes plays. I would love to see a string of several games in a row where he is fed the ball to see what he could do, but doubt that every happens. I don't think he is elite but better than the role he has for NO.

Maybe in another offense. There are a lot of targets for Brees in NO. His inconsistent play has never allowed him to be the #1 target. Look what Brandon Lloyd did last year. Similar type player.

Can anyone (maybe a Saints homer) tell me if Meachem is technically a "starter" or not? Is their base package 1 RB, 1 TE and 3 WR?

If so, I imagine he's on the field along with Colston and Moore.

Trying to decide whether or not to use him as a flex for week 1 in what figures to be a shootout with the Packers. Not to turn this into a WSIS - but rather to illustrate the type of guys I am deciding between - my flex will go to either Meachem, Donald Driver, Antonio Brown or Vernon Davis.

I'm leaning Davis unless someone confirms my thoughts that Meachem could be in for a surprisingly productive evening.

He and Colston are both FA's end of year. If Colston demands big money, he will be gone. They won't sink a boatload into a guy with 5 known knee surgeries.

Meachem's best place for fantasy relevance in the future -- Saints.

I think the problem is no one really knows when Meachem is going to be productive -- it's a crapshoot. He has 4-6 good games a season and several clunkers. Perhaps if Henderson is phased out of the offense and Bush's receptions don't go to Sproles, he'll get more looks. But even then he'll be sharing with Colston, Moore, Graham.

Gotcha. Well, I'm already starting big Jimmy. So as long as Drew throws down the field, I guess I have a 50% shot of getting points. (Assuming Graham, Meachem, Moore and Colston are the potential targets).I'm not worried about Devery too much.

Henderson will probably only get 30 to 40 catches, but he runs the same deep routes Meachem does, so those catches may come at the expense of Meachem. I have heard Henderson won't be involved in the offense as much, so Meachem could get more looks.

3rd straight week with a TD and has caught 13 of 17 targets.

I think he would put up better numbers elsewhere and he's a UFA next year.

He would likely get more targets if he was starting somewhere else, but he very likely would not have a QB as good as Brees. Hard to say if he comes out ahead on that tradeoff, because it's hard to tell how much of Meachem's success is due to Payton/Brees and the surrounding talent on the Saints offense.

Depth move
Has to be, but they could have had Parker for just that plus he had special teams skills to boot. - Would the Saints really bring in a guy who no longer has wheels as has been constantly reported out of SD? Doubt it.

Not that he's going to do anything beyond 300 yards or even stick with the team, but if he stays the only thing I see him doing is running the deep post route at the same time that Stills is running his deep routes.
