Roddy White (1 Viewer)

First off, I love this thread, naysayers aside (for those of you with the "not elite" as your only help here, GTFO).

Roddy to me has been an enigma. Consistent as heck, but not flashy. Almost the marvin harrison of the millenium.

In a league that bonuses for long catches/TDs, where would you put him?

To me, AJ, Calvin, Moss, Marshall, Fitz, and Austin all seem to have that "score form anywhere" Potential. I do not see that in White. Am I wrong in that assumption? In a 14 teamer tomorrow with the top pick, so I know I will not see him there, but next week I am in a 12 teamer with the 12th pick and bonuses for long catches/TDs. How do you start to differenciate

If the last three seasons mean anything, the guy is a lock for 80+ catches and around 1,200 yards. Throw in 8-10 TDs and that sounds pretty studly to me. I'd take him in a heartbeat as my number 1 WR.
Bingo. A great upward trend. This year he is poised for his best ever.
No upward trend. In standard scoring league, he averaged the exact same ppg in 09 as he did in 08. His TDs were down last year, but his yards were up. I love White and expect him to be right in the same range this year.
 He scored 11 touchdowns last year, up from 7 in '08.

You're right, I had it backwards. His TDs were up last season, but his yards were down from 08.

Sorry for weird thread title. I didn't mean to really insinuate that White wasn't elite. As I see it now, here is how I would tier WRs:

Tier 1

AJ

Moss

Tier 2

White

Calvin Johnson

Reggie Wayne

Miles Austin

Larry Fitz

AJ and Moss, in my opinion, are good enough to take in the first round. I think that Roddy has a chance to be as good as those two this season.

In regards to White last year, he had more TDs. But he also had a lot fewer long balls. I expect more deep passes to him this season, which is why I think he will elevate his totals.

Roddy White has to be the least talked about elite talent in the NFL. Even the Shark Pool neglects him at times.

Two weeks in, and Roddy is currently the #2 ranked WR in my PPR league following only Austin. I have no doubts that as long as the targets continue, the production will keep rolling in. I think Roddy is at the point in his career where he has mastered the game mentally and still physically able to compete with any CB in the league. Absolute butter-zone right now baby. Match-ups are an afterthought with Roddy.

I've considered him elite for a few years already, but this year it looks like he will be making a strong push for King of the Mountain.

Already leading the league in targets. But hey, what did all us Roddy owners expect?

This just shows the disconnect between PPR and reality. The guy's averaging below 10 yards per reception right now. He's averaging 5.4 yards per target. Personally, I think that Roddy White is definitely an elite or near-elite talent, but the first two weeks of the season are hardly "Exhibit A" to that effect. He hasn't been that great to start the season, he's just caught a billion balls on short routes. Check out his play-by-play log from last week's game and see if you notice any trends:

1-10-ARI20 (12:07) M.Ryan pass incomplete short right to R.White.

1-10-ARI47 (4:10) M.Ryan pass incomplete short right to R.White.

1-10-ARI43 (1:30) M.Ryan pass short right to R.White to ARZ 35 for 8 yards (G.Toler).

1-10-ARI30 (:28) M.Ryan pass short left to R.White to ARZ 16 for 14 yards (D.Rodgers-Cromartie, P.Lenon).

1-10-ATL45 (12:32) M.Ryan pass incomplete short right to R.White. PENALTY on ATL-R.White, Offensive Pass Interference, 10 yards, enforced at ATL 45 - No Play.

2-13-ATL42 (11:44) (Shotgun) M.Ryan pass incomplete short right to R.White (D.Rodgers-Cromartie).

3-13-ATL42 (11:41) (Shotgun) M.Ryan pass incomplete deep right to R.White. PENALTY on ARZ-D.Rodgers-Cromartie, Defensive Pass Interference, 19 yards, enforced at ATL 42 - No Play.

1-10-ARI26 (10:15) M.Ryan pass short right to R.White pushed ob at ARZ 22 for 4 yards (D.Rodgers-Cromartie).

3-1-ATL42 (5:33) M.Ryan pass short right to R.White pushed ob at ATL 48 for 6 yards (D.Rodgers-Cromartie).

2-8-ARI12 (13:26) M.Ryan pass incomplete short left to R.White (D.Rodgers-Cromartie).

3-8-ATL16 (9:07) (Shotgun) M.Ryan pass short left to R.White to ATL 40 for 24 yards (R.Johnson).

3-8-ATL42 (7:48) (Shotgun) M.Ryan pass short middle to R.White ran ob at ARZ 43 for 15 yards (R.Johnson).

1-10-ARI43 (7:21) (Shotgun) M.Ryan pass incomplete short right to R.White (C.Haggans).

1-10-ATL31 (15:00) M.Ryan pass incomplete deep left to R.White. PENALTY on ARZ-C.Haggans, Roughing the Passer, 15 yards, enforced at ATL 31 - No Play.

Now, Roddy White is a phenomenal receiver, but he hasn't had much chance to show it yet. So far this season, Atlanta's using him like a glorified Davone Bess.

It doesn't matter what kind of routes he's running and catching balls on.All that matters in fantasy football is having guys that get their hands onto the ball. And Roddy White is doing that at a magnificent rate now.

Depends on what you're talking about. If you want to talk about elite NFL WRs, then it absolutely does matter what kind of routes he's running and catching balls on. Roddy White has not performed through the first two weeks like an elite NFL WR. If you want to talk about elite fantasy WRs, then it absolutely does matter what kind of routes he's running and catching balls on, too. In non-PPR leagues, Roddy is 11th so far, which again is not really an "elite" start by any stretch. All that matters in PPR leagues is having guys that get their hands onto the ball, and Roddy White is definitely doing that... but that doesn't make him an elite WR, any more than it makes Wes Welker an elite WR (or, for a far more extreme example, any more than it made Mike Furrey a great WR back in 2006 when he finished as WR13 in PPR leagues).

Now, I think that Roddy is, at the end of the day, an elite receiver... but his play through two weeks hasn't made a compelling case thus far. It's been downright mediocre, especially by Roddy's normally high standards. Luckily, brighter days are ahead, and Roddy won't actually finish the season averaging below 10 yards per reception and below 6 yards per target.

Edit: Only someone in a PPR league could possibly use the word "magnificent" when describing Roddy White's play so far this season.

PPR is all I play.

Arguably the most consistent WR this season. He's in that elite tier.
As a 1st time owner, I f'n :lmao:   this guy. I think his worst week in my league has been 18 pts. (PPR) We keep one, and I already own Rodgers and Gore, but this guy is making a serious case for a keeper. I cannot be happier with this kid.

He's not elite yet.

It's 5 seconds later and he's still not elite.

ok, 5 seconds after that, i'd say he's elite right....

about.....

.....now.

Huh. I thought he was a top 3 receiver already. It can get more elite than that?
I think you have to finish top 3 atleast once before you can be considered top 3..imo AJMOSSFITZCALVINAUSTIN WHITETop 6 perhaps
So is the order of Roddy, AJ, Calvin officially ok to have now? Is he top 3 yet? Is there anything he can't do? Deep threat, possession receiver, run after the catch...

This is funny. He's pretty much picked my team up on his back and carried me to multiple victories. I can't think of a WR I would trade him for right now tbh.

He was actually on my bench. I was fooling around with my lineup earlier this week and as a joke I put in some hack who got me less than a point. I got busy with work and forgot to change it back. Ooof.

But thanks to Harvin, McFadden, Turner, and ADP, I still snagged high score for the year.
