Roger Lewis. Wr1 NYG? (1 Viewer)

Didn't see a thread on this guy but with all the injuries he is the defacto wr1 on the Giants.

Pass 1St offense.

I know matchups are bad next 2 weeks and then a bye but she's he not have value? He should be a shoe in for 6 to 8 weekly targets.

Yeah, I picked him up in one league where I desperately need a good WR #2. His initial rotoworld write up:

Roger Lewis - WR - Giants

Giants signed Bowling Green WR Roger Lewis.

Lewis (6'0/201) committed to Ohio State out of high school, but was accused of felony rape and had his scholarship rescinded. He landed at Bowling Green, twice earning first-team All-MAC honors with a combined 158-2,637-23 (16.7 YPR) receiving line. Allegedly nursing a hamstring injury, Lewis underwhelmed at the Combine but destroyed the Falcons' Pro Day, running 4.46 with a 36-inch vertical and 10-foot-5 broad jump. Lewis' off-field history is a concern, but he has an NFL makeup and could prove a steal if he stays on the straight and narrow.

Actually as a Giants fan I don't think he's the best receiver they signed. I see Tavarres King as the real #1. Ask other Giants fans, last year when both got playing time King looked like the more explosive playmaker.

If this is a legit player thread, might want to build the OP.

Great opportunity this season but this week against Denver doesn't seem like the week to play him.

Yeah, this is the Giants' upcoming sched:

6 - Oct 15 - @Den, Sun 8:30 pm

7 - Oct 22 - Sea, Sun 4:25 pm

8 - BYE-------

So... yeah. Plus Sterling Sheperd might be back for Week 7, definitely after the Bye. I'd think the Giants keep him in the slot, so the Giants X would most likely be King and Lewis the Y.

He is the kind of guy we will be adding very cheaply for playoff runs and it will make us money

This topic title....man. If you said that to me in the preseason I’d have laughed right in your face. If you told me it’d be by week 6 I may have guffawed. “Ha!” I’d say...”that’s rich - Keep hittin that J & tell me another one, Fibby McFibberson.”

Don’t ask me how I know your real name, I just know.

But yeah, life comes at ya fast if you’re a NY Football Giants fan I guess.  Considering preseason expectations this has got to be a tough year.

Someone I know was emphatically telling me that THIS was the year to draft Eli late and laugh all the way to the fantasy championships - all those receiving weapons!

Only if the Giants are planning on bringing in a new OL by then, because this one’s pretty terrible. They could use a legit RB, too.
Late season, it might not matter how good the OL or RB situations are. It could just become a case of volume.

Allow me to be just a bit contrarian here but as the wise man once said, "Somebody has to catch the football for the Giants." I'm stuck with maybe starting him and in another league using Engram. FML...

I think this is a pretty good point, in addition to the one about top CBs playing WR1's. I think Sheperd might be a good trade target. He's the most capable receiver at this point, he's probably dirt cheap, and he won't fully heal until after this bad stretch anyway.

Can someone shed some light on what Dodds sees in this dude vs. Sea? Yeah, I'm in trouble.
If I had to guess it's that Sherman may end up going man against Engram instead of Lewis because he's perceived as the bigger threat.  This would mean Lewis would either draw a rookie, an oft-injured CB, or a CB that joined the team via trade after the preseason games.

However I don't see Seattle changing their general defensive gameplan much.  Play the run tough and force Eli to throw to these inexperienced guys.

I think his strengths against WRs are his size and ability to jam them, but against a TE that advantage would be nullified.  Has Sherman covered TEs in the past?

To first answer your question, I can't remember a time.  But Engram is such a mismatch vs. most cover LBs that I have a tough time thinking that could be in the cards for obvious passing downs.

His ability to jam them does help but his cover skills, length, and speed would completely neutralize him which I would personally prefer.  Again I'll note that Seattle's defense very rarely plays that way.  He went man against Julio Jones last year as opposed to traditionally playing the left side--not sure if that's the plan but nothing that Kris Richard (DC) does would shock me.

It will be interesting to see what happens on Sunday.
