Quality show, I cannot wait till Octavian becomes the badass he is.My one quam with the show, in the past as well, is that they cut out crucial moments in history only to talk about them later. For example, I was a little dissapointed they didn't show Marc Anthony's speech and describe in more detail what happened there, especially the reading of the will to the people (Caesar left a large portion of his money to the people and that was primarily the reason they rioted, in addition to MAs speech).Last night season premiere was very good. Anybody else get a chance to catch it?I must say I didn't expect that to hapen to Vorenus' kids.
Really?First Deadwood and now Rome? Everytime I get hooked on one of these HBO shows they cancel it.Very nice surprise, it's a shame this is the last season.

LOS ANGELES -- The fall of "Rome" will happen sometime in early 2007.HBO announced Wednesday that the second season of its epic series set in the time of Caesar will debut Jan. 7. At the same time, the network says next season will be the last for the show.Filming on season two is currently taking place at the Cinecitta Studios in Rome and will wrap in October. Once that's done, though, the show -- a co-production with the BBC -- will call it quits.HBO Chairman and CEO Chris Albrecht says that "Rome" was originally envisioned as a miniseries, but after seeing the quality of the first scripts the network and its partners (Italian broadcaster Rai was also involved) decided to go ahead with a full-blown show. However, after dealing with the logistics of shooting overseas and the high cost -- reports pegged the price tage for the first season at somewhere around $100 million -- HBO made the decision to pull the plug (the commitments of BBC and Rai were due to run out after the coming season as well). The show's first-season ratings on HBO were decent (most episodes drew between 2 million and 3 million viewers) but not at the level of "The Sopranos" or, say, "Six Feet Under" in its prime. It did earn a fair share of critical praise and last week was nominated for eight Emmys.
Tell me about it, HBO is good at ####ting the bed and messing up a good thing.Sopranos ~2yrs between seasonsDeadwood, done.. hopefully we'll see the final 2 eps.Rome, only two seasonsCurb: doneUp next... An employee from HBO told me a while back there would be another season. Now it seems fairly official. After months of speculation, HBO officially confirmed that there will be a 6th season of Curb Your Enthusiasm . Production offices opened in September 2006. The new episodes will air sometime in 2007.
At a post-Emmy show for E! News on August 27, 2006, Cheryl Hines confirmed that the sixth season would begin filming on October 16, 2006; however, she is uncertain of the air date.

I think that narrative technique was born of necessity. The series is already expensive, there was absolutely no way they could have afforded to show Pharsalus with any degree of virsimilitude. I think the funeral speeches are a similar issue. We're all familiar with Shakespeare's take, and who wants to compete with that? I think focusing the action on more intimate moments is a defensible stylistic choice. The danger, of course, is that Rome will turn into a nighttime soap set in antiquity. We're already getting a kind of Alexis/Krystal vibe out of Servilia and Atia.My one quam with the show, in the past as well, is that they cut out crucial moments in history only to talk about them later. I don't know. Three seasons would seem to me to be the most logical structure, with the current season ending at Phillipi and the series itself ending with Actium and Marc Antony and Cleopatra's subsuquent suicides in Egypt. The most logical throughline of the show is the ascendancy of Octavian. And considering they spent the time to build Vorenus' duty to Marc Antony, and Pullo's to Octavian I think the parallel storyline fit that structure as well.I also think that they are only doing 2 seasons because if they continued on, they would begin to cover the ground covered in I Claudius...

I'd be shocked if it was. I don't think they would have had What'sHisName dismiss Pullo's statement that he could still get out alive otherwise. He knew he was dead no matter what and this was his last f*** tu to Vorenus.I wonder if that is truly the final word on Vorenus' kids. Anyway, he and Pullo are such great characters, the friendship of those two has been the best part of the series.
I never got into the too dry humor of Curb or into Entorage. With Rome and Soprano's ending, and Deadwood done, I hope they come up with something else. When does the new season start then?

He was Tommy from Trainspotting, the kid that didn't do heroin, then got into it, and died from AIDS. Maybe everyone else knew that, but I didn't. Hard to believe it's the same guy.
I sure hhope your right. It made me sick when he siad he @#!#@! them. Wouldnt it have been nice to be Marc. HBO should come out with a SciFI or horror series. I know they have done horror before (Tales from the Crypt, The Hitchhiker) but I would like see a show that is not an anthology.I never got into the too dry humor of Curb or into Entorage. not sure - could be some Roman death ritual. What is the deal with wet nurse & Caesar's lips?
Yeah, I looked at my wife and said Lucky Him..... And the Kitchen whore was sweet.Wouldnt it have been nice to be Marc. " Im not leaving this bed until I______ someone" Get that wench in the kitchen from Germany in here.

The series doesn't shy away from capturing Roman rituals and folkways that seem bizarre today, such as the wet nurse who puts one of her nipples to the lips of Caesar's corpse as part of the funeral preparation. "Rome" frequently treats exotic details in a matter-of-fact way. When Vorenus laments the fact that he literally cursed his children out of rage and despair, Pullo suggests it wasn't binding because he didn't sacrifice an animal afterward: "Well, there you go, then."From: http://atlanta.creativeloafing.com/gyrobas...id=oid%3A181112not sure - could be some Roman death ritual. What is the deal with wet nurse & Caesar's lips?

WOW. Looks like they will speed up the timeline quicly. I suppose since this being the last season it had to be done in this fashion.I also thought last nights episode kinda suxored. It was boring up until the last 15 min or so.Another superb episode. I might be alone, but I think the acting is some of the best I've seen, across the board. Almost every single actor is absolutely top notch.
Very compelling episode.
An interesting tidbit I read (but I suppose a small spoiler too):
They sped up the timeline on last night show . . . one scene was "3 months later."The acting is excellent. Although there was far too much male full frontal nudity is the last episode.WOW. Is anybody still watching this??Excellent show.
yup, great showIs anybody still watching this??
sad that this is the last season.
i hate knowing how it ends.sad that this is the last season. The show seeems to be flying along this year. Anybody know how many episodes are left?I guess it comes down to Antony/Octavian vs Brutus/Cassius?Next week preview: Brutus is suppose to attack but is drawn into a trap because he does not know Octavian and Aantony are now allies. So more than likely while brutus attacks octavians forces, antony will flank him with his legions and break his lines. Meanwhile, pullo and veranus settle things in the city. I think they are going to knock off their all rivals so they can have undisputed control of the aventine. Should be a good episode.
