Romo to the Pro Bowl? (1 Viewer)

To say after 5 games Romo got figured out is absurd. The guy was only held under 200 yards once after 5 games, going over 300 twice. Romo fumbling and throwing INTs isn't exactly figuring it out, it's him being a young QB and making the same mistakes all young QBs do. I agree that we won't know for 2-3 seasons of him being a starter which way the trend will go, but the numbers the guy put up cannot be denied. There have been far worse young QBs named to the Pro Bowl in the past and far worse first year starters in the NFL.

i'd blame romo's downturn mostly on the pressure to score due to the defense, that was rated last in the league in that stretch, and simply not getting away with things like holding the ball loosely.

however, one thing missing was the lack total domination on 3rd downs. up until the saints game, he made probably every 3rd throw. everytime a play was needed he made it.

Such as...Not saying Romo won't make a fine QB for years to come, but the Pro Bowl was a bit soon. He's played great and helped turn the Cowboys season around, but I think he showed some flaws down the stretch (turnovers, poor decisions). And yes, give any DC 5 games of tape and they can begin to spot the weaknesses.

NFC quarterbacks were so average this year. Who would you replace him with? Dallas doesn't make the playoffs without him. I won't argue with the choice.

:goodposting:the guy looked very pedestrian in his last few games. yards don't mean ####. Rex Grossman was lighting the league on fire in the first half of the season... think he's still a great QB?

Had Vick played just a *little* better down the stretch and got his team in the playoffs, he would have easily deserved to be there. He didn't and due to injuries to McNabb and Hasselbeck the door was wide open for Romo to slip in.

I never thought Grossman was a great QB. Too small. Not a great scrambler, poor vision. As a Bears fan I'd love for Dallas to trade them Romo for Grossman. Both Romo and Grossman can be considered gun slingers, and play reckless at times, but I think Romo has a bigger upside. How do you want to measure a QB if yards don't count? How about QB rating? He recorded a QB rating of over 100 in two of his last 3 games. Does that count? Yeah, he hit a QB rating of 148 vs TB. That is pretty damn great, I'd think that is a ceiling for most QBs, and unrealistic to expect anybody to maintain that for a whole year. Peyton Manning only hit over 140 once all year. Romo was inconsistent and had low points mixed in, but I don't think that is a function of being figured out. Being figured out implies his game will never improve upon his earlier success. If his stats were measured on a graph they were up and down, not just straight down. Show me a first year player who improved every game. Big Ben, probably statistically the best first year starting QB in a long time, if not ever, threw in some clunkers to toward the end of his rookie year, including an poor 33 rating in December. Romo never got below 45. Grossman hit a 1.3, that is truly horrible, but bounced back with a couple of 100 games. So for as inconsitent Romo was, Grossman was much more so. Did the league figure out Favre in 92 and 93 only to unfigure him out for the rest of his career? Romo is a kid who is learning how to be a starting QB, but also shows some great skills IMO. I'll buy that teams have more file to gameplan on the more games a player plays, but that's the NFL. Good players and good teams adjust to what defenses do against them. I'd have to see a sampling larger than 10 games to say with certainty that teams have figured Romo out.

Here's some stats of a past Pro Bowl QB, first alternate.

16 games, 60.9 comp %, 3303 yards, 19 TDs, 24 Ints, 72.2 QB rating

He turned out pretty good.
